    Small flock Beltsville Turkeys NC

I am selling off my flock of Beltsville Small White Turkeys. I have decided to get out of raising turkeys. I've got six turkeys for sale. One blue eyed Tom and five hens. The Tom and one of the hens are three. There is one, two year old hen, one, one year old hen and a young hen hatched...

    chicks with strep

I've given them probiotics along with l-glutamine but I was thinking that I could do more to inhibit the strep. I've never seen such long chains of cocci bacteria in their feces before. Is it safe to give chickens oregano oil if it's diluted with another oil like coconut? Does anybody know?

    chicks with strep

I have some chicks, about 3 weeks old who just finished treatment for campylobacter with erythromycin. Now they have diarrhea. I did a fecal flotation and they have no coccidia but they do have an abundance of strep in their feces. I dont want to medicate with antibiotics again. Wanted to...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I did a necropsy oon the last hen that died by wasting. She had had mareks at about 7 weeks and recovered. She started showing signs of a problem at 2yrs. Just like the others before her, the first symptoms were like bluecomb: slightly labored breathing, bluish tinge to the points of the...

I second that, dawg. Rotate your dewormers people! Don't leave the rest of us wondering why safeguard no longer kills capillaria! Also, it behooves every one of us to learn to do a fecal flotation- they're cheap and easy.

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Isn't the vaccine a modified live variant of the Turkey form of Mareks? (the name of which escapes me now) I had all of my Bresse come down with Mareks and all but three have died slowly, wasting away with good appetites. I am down to one hen and two cockerels but I got a good number of...

    Faverolles Thread

I like the birds that I hatched from Piper and Sah, they do have a good size and weight to them- great layers too. The cockerels continue to grow, they are less than a year old still. I've already hatched eggs from the pullets they are already very fertile. Extremely healhy chicks too and they...

    Faverolles Thread

Kind of upset tonight. I told my husband not to get me a Christmas, Birthday or Mothers Day present because I wanted to buy a pair of Patterson birds from an acquaintance. I have been waiting since the fall because he said he wanted to take them to Canada and then to a show in February. I...

    Lazy Peachick

I don't know about chickens but metronidazole can be very rough on kidneys. Let me get this straight, he isn't eating or drinking and yet he has diarrhea? I am wondering if he is having an adrenal problem. The adrenal glands secrete aldosterone and aldosterone is an antidieuretic. If he...
