I have one that is having the same problem. Thought I was going to have to put her down because she couldn't walk. She was hobbling around. I put her in my lap and turned her on her back after she calmed. I sat there with her checking for any injuries but couldn't find one. Then I heard a couple...

Mine do this..just a chicken thing and it drives me. They have plenty of other places.....i got them to stop in an area by putting a thick layer of hay along the back wall. Really thick layer and they stopped. They were unable to get to the dirt.
Oh to have 5 acres! Why would you add more chickens to let free range? Why not let the chicks you have run free? I fenced my half acre for many reasons but I made it 6ft tall for my chickens. You could add a fenced area for yours to have time out of the run. There are many options....even T...
The more room your chickens have the better. Moisture is our enemy in coops. Have plenty of ventilation. Chickens as you know poop a lot at night. When I had a smaller coop I had a poop box with PDZ/Stall refresher under the roost that was cleaned out like a cat litter box. This helped...
I would worry more about the mean dog breaking into the yard than the chickens going into the yard with the mean dog. My chickens seem to be very aware of anything outside of the fence even before I'm aware of it. I have even seen them scatter because of a blue Jay that flew in unexpectedly.
First, how big is the yard that is fenced? I have found if they have enough space they seem to be fine and don't try to fly out. The chicks you have are heavier breeds and it won't be easy for them to get much hieght in their flight..also depends if they have anything to hop up on to get a...

Last Thursday I got home from work around 7:30 pm and went out to check the broodys. I have two. So in the confusion and drama of arguing about nest boxes, one of the broody buffs had went and got in another nest. I found her two eggs I had candled that were viable, cold with two new eggs laid...
Well I dont know how yall get such great pictures. Mosta mine are blurry if I can get my chickens standing half way still. I will go practice my chicken picture taking....see if I can get a flap.. ;)
