    Snake in nesting box.

Lol, goofy chickens. I think the snake was also using her to keep warm because the eggs you see were all of the eggs in the box. The snake pushed all of the eggs out of the way so she was only sitting on him, except for the one he had just swallowed, which I got back. He is oh so very dead now!

    Snake in nesting box.

She was wide awake when I touched her to make sure she wasn't dead.

    Snake in nesting box.

So I have a broody hen who is more than happy to allow other hens in her nesting box to lay eggs. I went to check on everything tonight and I found a black rat snake in the box. Why would she allow the snake in the box with her?

    Help our human!!

So would the welsh harlequin be a female based on the feather color or would I have to determine gender the old fashioned way?

    Help our human!!

Oh, the chickens are Cornish crosses. The 1st and 2nd picture are of the same duck. She is a created something but I just can't figure out what that something is. She looks like an Indian runner, but she stands more horizontal than vertical. The human is confused! And, I have no idea what the...

Ended Contest #3 Cutest Baby Fowl - 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong

i love it when hens try to mother ducklings! I had to comment back on this! I cannot believe the irony of the situation and date. We had a broody hen, and at the time no roosters around. So I put Khaki Campbell duck eggs under her that hatched on JULY 15TH, 2016! (NOT AN ENTRY!)

    Help to identify please

So I got these cuties today at the Tractor Supply. I know what the baby with the light bill is but I am wondering if anyone can help to identify the cutie with the dark bill.

Ended Official BYC Contest - Worst Chicken Molt Pictures - Fall-Winter 2016

I have definitely seen worse but this is my EE's first molt so I am posting her pics. I couldn't get very good pics because my black lab Marvin was trying to help, but here is Orange (that's her name)!

    Hatching chicks

Thank you. I just put her back in the nesting box with the hatchlings for the night and I blocked the opening so everyone will just be contained for the night. I will look into your suggestions in the morning and get my education on! Thank you again.

    Hatching chicks

My Black Australorp just hatched 4 chicks yay! There are 3 eggs in the nesting box that are still developing, but my hen has already left the nesting box with the chicks that have already hatched. I would love for the 3 remaining eggs to hatch too. I do not have an incubator, and I really would...

    Fighting Drakes

I have them separated right now, but the one looks so sad and lonely. I feel so bad for him because they have bruised his bill. So then getting rid of one of the others will help

    Fighting Drakes

Ok so they were not getting along with each other for as long as I hoped. 2 are ganging up on 1, so that the one is now scared of the other 2. If I got rid of one of the 2, would that change things? I really like the one that is being picked on; he is very friendly and sweet and I would prefer...
