As a kid i raised two ducklings with my sister in 2nd grade, my enjoyment with ducks then grew when i
began hatching them. I love how ducks get attatched to you if they think your mum. My duck Piper thinks
hes human as I was the first thing he saw in the new world. He'll always come to me when i...
last night a fox or small animal broke into my coop and ate three of my four ducks, leaving thier morbid remains for me to find in the coop. I have a single duck left now, her name is Eve's and shes a female black indian runner, she is all alone, highly in distress and squacking nonstop. I am...
cute mallards!
advice i can give is make sure you give ducks a water source thats at least a few inches deep as they need to be able to get thier eyes wet to stay healthy. From my own past experience of keeping a duck temporarily on a metal cage, make sure you put hay down over the wire or get...
my fawn and white runner had ducklings last spring with either my chocolate drake or my gray runner. Supposedly, from what i've heard and learned, the chocolate is the father. \\\\ I have more pictures on my BYC page. but heres the brood as babies and teens, but they look similar to your bunch...
hey thanks so much everyone! im pretty positive it was a wood duck drake.. It makes sense considering i live in sight of a pond down the street. I found the feathers near my ducks kiddie pool, we've had mallard visitors before to the kiddie pool, but never a wood-duck. such a shame poor duck...
today I came home to a red tailed hawk consuming what i assume to be a smallish bird, maybe a pheasant?? i assume it was small because the hawk was able to take flight with the carcass as i walked near. I didnt even notice him till he took flight, i was astonished by the mass of feathers for...
Hello there My name is Jill!

Simply:
My Runner duck cricket is very broody (usually) , i love ducklings and dont have the heart sometimes to stop her from sitting on eggs. Im posting this because...

thanks aussiedude248 for the information, im currently reading through the posts.
my ducks are safe and secure when they are caged up in thier 12X22 run, i covered it with chickenwire, top to bottom, even buried 2 feet in the ground.. hawks from above and coyotes digging below have been problems...
thanks sourland, yeah he's a regular to the yard and tries to get an easy meal once and a while. when im around and i see him, i can get him to easily leave my yard by clapping very loud and fast. the noise seems to deter him away.. i always listen to the crows as welll, they always tell ya when...
after a close call earlier this year with a hawk.. and many times coming in contact, one managed to kill my blue runner duck when i wasnt around. i feel terrible that if maybe i had checked on them sooner i would have maybe saved her. The scene was not that bad actually considering what else ive...
dave krista you can probably special order different size hardware cloth at your local feed store, maybe even local hardware if you ask they may be able to special order. thats what i did for my chicken wire so it was high enough to my liking.
thanks gofasterstripe they are super cute, i never expected them to look the way they do..
desertdarlene your post made me regret my choice of picky wording! i didnt want to make it like some people wouldnt qualify ! i just would prefer someone who had experience with ducks rather than someone...
