I just got these eggs from a BCM fertile egg seller in Arkansas and there's some SWEET speckles going on! It sounds like there's a Blue CM in with them, if that has any bearing.
As soon as my broody starts setting I'll be pestering you for some eggs!
My next ship dates are Saturday the 20th and Monday thru Wednesday of next week. (22nd-24th).
PM me or reply to this thread if you're interested in some. [/B]
Thanks!

I haven't had the opportunity to cook with them myself, but I work in the culinary field and am a food nerd, so I know what the traditional Asian applications for silkies are. They are used almost exclusively as a soup/stewing/braising bird and are very rarely roasted. Here's an...

You know, surprisingly even with them being slower moving, they're kind of tough. They're traditionally used as a stewing or braising bird. Excellent for soup and other low and slow heat source applications.
Oh man, good luck! My girls straight up turned theirs noses away from the non-layer feed I tried to switch them to when it becomes apparent their laying start was going to be delayed. I guess if they get hungry enough they will, but my girls just got super treat aggressive. It was scary!
I'm type 1 on that list! No kids, but I'm just allergic to everything furry and adorable, so chickens afford me an outdoor pet that's still affectionate. The eggs are a bonus, but a big one since I'm a chef so I truly value the difference in quality for my finished products. Speaking of...

I'm thinking it could be... The lady I sdopted Shirley from responded and said she used to lay cream to vey light tan eggs, so that rules her out. The speckles don't wash off, honestly I kind of like them! I'd just be a bit sad if it was Martha because I was really hoping for green or blue...
I just started washing my eggs and putting them in the fridge instead of keeping them at room temp. I was under the impression I only had one (Ruby the RIR) of my three hens laying as eggs have all been the same color and in the same nesting box. I witnessed her egg song and first egg around...
Thanks, It sure is! It's funny, too, she's never given a fig for mealworms before and now she's positively ravenous for them. She nearly took my thumb off when I held some out! She must need more protein than what she's getting.
Now I just need my EE to start up. I have a bantam frizzle...
Woohoo! I just got back from my holiday trip to find my RIR, Ruby, has had a running start on laying! She laid her first brown 1.8 oz beauty the day we left on the 23rd, which was exciting in and of itself. She's laid 4 out of five days, with the last two edging up into 1.9 oz. Nearly to...
Ruby, my RIR, laid her first today! Right in the nesting box and an enthusiastic egg song afterwards.
It's 1.8 oz and and evenly toned. I'm a proud mama!
