    Just an update: We had 13 of 19 hatch. So super fun! Had to help the last one. His lil beak got stuck like glue to the membrane. Wrapped in warm wet paper towel and helped widen the zip. Then he kicked free. Membrane was still on his head like a super glued pope hat. Ha! Named him "Lucky" number...

    Day 21!!!!! Got 3 babies this afternoon and 5 more pips so far. Looks like a RIR, a Plymouth Rock, and an Ancona. All mutts so who knows. Tiny lil Ancona is LOUD! Started with 23 eggs. 4 started weeping nasty brown stuff so had to remove. NEVER had this happen before. Anyone know what causes...

    I used my iPhone video recorder, but I think that the key is the flashlight. It's just one of those small LED flashlights, but it's very bright. I was just using an old school film projector as my light source in the classroom. Good luck!

    Just joined BYC this evening. We have 23 eggs from my sister's flock in our incubator. So excited to do with my own kids what I've LOVED doing with my students as an elementary school teacher! We candled the eggs last night on day 8, and it was the first time I'd ever seen the babies MOVING...
