Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well. As it turns out, all of you that responded were correct about my previous post- about all my "girls" beings cockerels. I ended up taking them to a farmer that is very kind and loving and actually was looking to breed the type of guys that I had.
Now...
Still trying to determine if I have boys or girls here. At first I thought I had a roo... but now not so sure.
Here are a few pics...
The First pic shows the bird in question in the front of the photo. The Second pic shows all the birds.
The one that I think might be a rooster developed...

I have a 2-week old chick that has had pasty-butt just about since the day we got her. I have used the apple cider vinegar (Braggs) along with Nutri-Drench, and used warm water to wash off the pasty-poo.... and still, it continues. She is also smaller and less active than the other chicks...
Hi BYC family!
While I am not new to the BYC forum, I have been gone for about a year or so. So I thought I would re-introduce myself and my new chicks! I had taken a break for a while from raising chickens, as I was newly dating who would become my current fiance'. At the time, I didn't feel...
Hi BYC Family!
While I am not new to the BYC forum, I have been away for about a year or so. I had a nice flock of chicks that I re-homed to a local farm that is in my family. I was in the process of getting engaged and didn't feel like I had the time to devote to my girls, so I did what I...
So I've decided to open up my chicken run and let my girls explore the entire huge back yard area. Has anyone had any experience with this type of fencing? Does it shock the chickens or just the animals trying to get in? How do you keep the chickens inside the 4ft fence without flying over? Any...
Hi everyone,
I've posted a couple of times now about pecking issues in my small flock. I had two that I had to separate because they were pecked to the point of injury and found the two that were aggressive and separated them out as well. That leaves me with just 6 in the flock in the run and I...
So I need some help!!!!! I have 10 hens. I posted over a week ago about an incident, and it's become worse.... I had two aggressive Rhode Island Reds that were picking on two other RIR's to the point where hey had plucked there feathers out below their vents and drew blood. I separated the...
Hi everyone! I recently posted about one of my chicks pecking the feather completely off the backside on one of my chickens, drawing blood then attracting all the birds to them because of the blood.
I separated the injured bird and have been treating them. The next day i found the same breed of...
Hi everyone! Today I went into my coop and found two chickens inside. One was pecking at the others rear end and I took a look at it and below the "butt" there was a huge round injury that was bleeding. I don't know what to do or how to help. I feel so helpless and want to do something! I'm...
Hi everyone!
I wanted to ask about the cold weather and my chickens. I have 10 approx 6 month old chickens here in Texas. Our weather here is really crazy and I'm wondering if my chicks that are used to warmer temps will be ok in the cold? (Tonight it's supposed to be down to 28) I've filled...
Hey everyone,
This is my second time posting about this issue. I have ten chickens that normally stay in their coop at night. Here lately three of them, sometimes different ones on different nights, are choosing to stay outside in the run on top of a perch! I worry about the because the temps...
Hi everyone! I have some strange chicks, let me tell you. They are less than 6 months old, and when I went to take my dogs out tonight, I found 4 of them huddled together on top of the tractor portion of my coop/ run! Now normal they are all inside together, but I've seen them do this a handful...
So my chickens were making all kinds of noise today.... to the point that I thought maybe there was a snake out there. I went out to investigate and found that some of the ceramic eggs had been moved to the ground of the coop. I picked them up and realized that I had six eggs. (I only bought 4...
Hi everyone! My chicks are supposed to start laying this month.
My local farm supply suggested that I go ahead and start them on layer crumbles. Any advice? Anything in addition that I should be giving them?
Thanks in advance!
Neil
Hello everyone! Just wondering if anyone can tell from these photos if these are all females- as I was told, or if I might have a male or two. Thanks a ton!
Neil
Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing well out there. I have four chicks that I'm about to introduce to my existing flock. My existing flock is 6 chicks that are about 4 months old and the new ones (4 of them) are close behind at about 3 months. They ARE a little bit smaller than my existing...
Hi everyone! Hope all is well. I have a weird situation. I've been brooding 4 chicks inside in a HUGE kennel with mama heating pad and sometimes a heat lamp. They are at a constant 80-85 degree temp. The chicks are now seven weeks old and more than ready to go outside. I've only kept them inside...
