LOL...I think mostly they peck because they think EVERYTHING is food. A mole, a dirt speck or a freckle....they are trying to eat
it. We are just walking vending machines to them ya know.
I do have one that pecks me in the butt when I am sitting on the stump holding another chicken.
I do believe...
LOL...my little spoiled peeps wait for me to rake them a path so they can wonder about in the yard..but step on it with their precious little feet....I think not.
That was last year...no snow this year so maybe they would...ROFL
Sounds kind of like my trouble a few days ago. I noticed eggshell (leathery) hanging out part the way. After letting her try to expel it..I caught her...held her in my lap. I put a damp warm cloth on her bumm and softened the area. It was sticking to her bumm. After a short while I could pull...
She seems fine today. She hasn't been laying much lately as she is starting to molt.
She did lay a couple shell less eggs a few weeks ago.
She has always laid a weird shaped egg...has a "bump" at one end...and the shell is somewhat thin.
It is always a large egg too...not monsterous...just a big...
I had one of my chickens have a egg shell stuck in her...and there was no egg in it. The shell was soft/leathery. There was no sign of egg in the nestbox or on the ground.
It was poking (about an inch) out of her bumm for over an hour. I watched to see if it came out, but after awhile I worried...
Is there anything special you give your chickens while they are molting?
Anything extra than jus the regualr pellet? I already treat them scratch and some bread each day.
Not all of ours are molting, but some are.
I have a little chicken notebook that I keep our records...but only the count each day.
I can only ID about half the eggs to who laid which.
Any other important info I also keep in there.
