I've been keeping peafowl 5 or 6 years i guess it is now. They free range all over the community and neighbors don't mind. I only have 9 birds and the homesites here are 3 to 6 acres so, it's not so crowded. Most years, just before freezing weather i trap them all into my barn which has an...
This is my 6 month old bird. It has fanned a few times, which makes me lean towards male. It don't have even a hint of a spur, but may be too young for that. I can't be sure it is larger than my hen. But I lean towards it's legs maybe being a bit longer and a bit thicker than my hen.
I free...
I have 6 peafowl. 3 of them like to fly up on the house and from there up in an oak tree to roost and back to the house in the morning. There are plenty of trees down by the barn, but they favor the house.
Any experience with peacocks damaging shingles? Maybe yes, maybe no? Your thoughts?
A few weeks ago i posted pics of my 4 peafowl - first ones I've ever had. The consensus was they were all 4 males. My pictures weren't very good, and these pics aren't much better. These birds are one week shy of 5 months old. 3 of them now have very prominent barred feathers on their backs and...
I have 4 birds - all hatched about 4 months ago. How many males / females you think i have here or what angle can i take pics from, in order for you to guess more accurately? Thanks!
I've been keeping birds 25 years and have good success with most of them.
Last year i hatched me off some peafowl and came up with 2 pairs. I decided to keep them up so i could find eggs once they began to lay.
Over about a 4 month period, they all slowly died. They looked good and i turned...
I turn loose pheasants and rarely see them after a week or two. I turn loose bobwhites and after 2 or 3 days they vanish. What about chuckars will they hang around for the most part or be goners right away?
Thanks

Hello,
I want to write an article on Butler Bobwhites. I can find plenty of info about their characteristics but so far have had no luck about lerning about their origins ... how they got their name ... etc ... etc
I tried Wikipedia and FeatherSite, but nothing.
If you know when and how they...
If you personally know anyone or have heard second hand stories of people who were successful at turning their bobwhite hobby into a thriving business, please share.
I hatched 56 out of 105 and they look healthy but I'm losing 3 or 4 a day and i wonder if maybe they haven't found the water
i had 3 chickens in the brooder that were about 10 days old and i removed them thinking maybe they were running over the quail
i also have 5 pheasants in there that...
You know those weeping eggs that stink up the house and cause a frown and disparaging comments from the Mrs.
I think I've found a way to eliminate the odors - not eliminate the Mrs. (though i guess that route would work too).
I call it an incubator-in-an-incubator concept and all it will be...
What do you think?
What are the most popular breeds of chickens among both large fowl and bantams combined? Here's a top 10 list off the top of my head and i'm sure i will miss a few. I'm learning, so name the top 10 according to your estimate.
1. Sikies
2. Barred Rocks
3. Old English...
I wonder how serious most people on this board are about marketing and growing their chicken business.
If they could purchase a website with the domain name being the most popular name for their favorite breed and already have it positioned at the # 1 free ranking spot at Google, what price tag...
