My 3 silkies are now 16 weeks old and I was wondering if they are old enough for you chicken people out there to sex. Tbey are only hatchery quality so I think they're old enough? I think one is definitely a cockeral and one is definitely a pullet... but there's one more that I'm not sure about...
Hi. I'm thinking about hatching some ducks as an experiment (1/2 under a broody and 1/2 in an incubator)
I know there's a whole tutorial section for this.. but that basically tells me how to turn them and such and that's very helpful but as far as making the incubator it just shows me a bunch...
I've heard a little about the concept as my aunt had a room mate in college that raised one baby duck that would follow her to class if she let it. Anyway I just read somewhere that it is not exactly imprinting on an individual as much as on a species (either duck/goose or human) then later it...

I have 3 EE, 2 BO, and 3 silkies and I think they might be in that order (oldest to youngest) as far as age goes.. from the beginning...

So I've been freaking out for the past month about getting my chickens and was so happy to find BYC and now, out of the blue, my uncle mentions getting GOATS?!? I'm going crazy with excitement:ya, but realized i don't know the first thing about goats. His friend apparently has 4 pregnant does...
So, my 2nd cat, rosie showed up outside about a week after we moved to our new house and, because I love cats (and already have one so had plenty of kitty food), I fed her. And my mom was right, once I was feeding her, she was here for good. Which was more than fine with me.
So I put some flea...
I always thought silkies laid little light brown eggs (BYC breed index said so), so why, on MPC are the white silkie bantam hatching eggs shown as really big white eggs? Did they just not bother to put correct photos (it looked like pretty much all the brown egg breeds were the same picture and...
I wanna get my first chicks this spring and was wondering where some BYCers got their birds. So any favorite hatcheries? or did you buy from a feed store? Breeders?
Thanks!
I am looking to order my first chicks!!! I'm looking for a few specific breeds, EE, Buff Orpingtons, Silver Laced Wyandottes and Silkies.
I've been looking around and of the few hatcheries online that even have all the breeds right now or at least soon (mcmurray, cackle, mypetchicken), I had...
I'm planning on getting my first chicks EVER. I'm a complete beginner. A bit clueless on where to get them? I think I'd probably like to order them but not sure where are some good trusted places to get them (don't want to buy sick chicks) that also have a good selection for not too expensive...
