Our chick was born with a minor splayed leg and we have been trying to treat it with chick hobbles since it was about 2 days old.
Its almost a week old now and it hasn't gotten any better at walking when we take them off to change the band-aid.
It walks better with the band-aid but I'm concerned...
Long story short, i hatched this one bantam sultan chick that had a really hard time hatching.
it had shrink wrapped and was stuck in the egg for about 48 hours.
I helped it by bringing it into a steamy bathroom and getting it out of the shell (it was most of the way zipped but didn't have the...
Yesterday was our hatching day. It was going great and i was very confident all the 14 eggs would hatch.
We have a few chicks hatch but then our hygrometer and thermometer broke!
And our hovabator tends to spike alot with the change in humidity so i was panicking.
2 chicks that were in the...
4 chicks have hatched but we have 10 other eggs pipping and zipping and my hygrometer and thermometer just broke (its wires got disconnected!) .
I'm really worried now. i don't know if the temp or humidity is ok now!
I'm really worried about my other eggs and i'm panicking!!!
I need a new one NOW!
I have 14 eggs in the incubator (sultans and sizzles) its only day 20 and one of our chicks just hatched (a bantam sultan).
Here is a video of it in the incubator:
The video starts off dark but the chick does move into the light
Exactly what you just read!
Some of my polish bantam chicks that are only 6 days old have started crowing.
It started on day 5, i heard a weird squeal one morning. I thought i chick was injured.
I jump out of bed and run to the brooder, but everything looks normal.
Then it happens a second time...
I know a little about color genetics in chickens, so i know you can breed blue, black and splash together, etc.
But i was wondering what would happen if you breed at blue, black or splash to a laced chicken of the same breed?
Would some come out laced and others come out solid? Or would the...
Ok so i am going to try and summarize this all up.
Please excuse me if i forget anything, but i am very upset and frazzled right now.
OK so, on Feb 2nd i hatched out 5 polish bantam chicks.
The first one to zip took the longest and three more hatched while it had stopped.
It couldn't get out...
So this was my first time hatching EVER.
Because this was my first time, i thought they were not going to hatch due to my inexperience.
I ordered some polish bantam eggs from someone on byc and 5 of them hatched on Feb 2nd!
I was so proud of my little babies!
I was alittle worried because...
I recently just hatched 5 polish bantam chicks yesterday.
1 chick had issues hatching, it zipped all the way but couldn't get out of the shell.
It took so long that it shrink wrapped so i put a straw through the incubator to add some moisture to the egg.
It eventually ended up hatching but it...
I just hatched 5 polish bantam chicks.
One of the chicks took a long time to hatch.
It had zipped most of the way and couldn't get out for a long time.
When it did get out, it was very weak and it ended up having greenish diarrhea.
Should i be concerned? they are freshly hatched and none of the...
I am very excited because i am trying to incubate some bantam polishes.
This is my first time incubating and i was really scared i was going to muff it up.
Its day 7 and i just candled.
I tried to take a video/pictures but it really wasn't showing anything i was seeing, so i saw it being...
We have been running the incubator the day before we set eggs, so we could keep it at a nice steady rate at 95.5 degrees humdity is around 40-45%.
But once we added the eggs, the temperature just won't seem to go back up!
I know its probably from having to open the bator, so we are raising the...
I won some polish bantam eggs and I will be getting them tommarow!
I'm very excited!
This will be my fist time hatching eggs so i hope all goes well.
I have a Hovabator 1620 with an egg turner and a fan.
I'm curious about how much water to put in the water tray?
I know humidity should be around...
I'm going through a rough patch right now...
Right before Christmas, i had to put my whole flock down because they had CRD.
Christmas day, my grandfather in England died.
And just recently in the past day or two, my dog who has lymphoma, has been going down hill.
It doesn't look like hes going...
So after recently losing my whole flock, i was planning on hatching out some chickens in the spring, around march.
Right now my coop can only fit (12 bantams) and when we first built it, we thought that we wouldn't have more chickens then that...
Recently.... chicken math is setting in.....it...
Whats your opinion on Japanese bantam roosters?
Do they tend to be calm/friendly?
Do they have a tendency to be aggressive at all?
I know alot has to do with the way they are raised, genetics of parents, etc.
Has anyone had any problems with them before?
I'm planning on having laid back breeds...
So i just had to put down my flock the other day because they had CRD.
I'm heartbroken and trying to plan for hatching eggs in the spring.
I'm super paranoid that i could possibly buy infected eggs.
I heard that you can dip hatching eggs in Oxine or Tylan and that will help prevent any diseases...
Long story short, i will have to cull my entire flock because it has Chronic Respiratory Disease (we think its MG but we are waiting for test results to get back).
Anyway we want to clean the run and coop as best as possible so we don't have to worry about any of the new chickens (we hatch out...
