Indian runners in coop with buff Orpington

I've always loved Indian runner ducks and my kids have always ran to see them at the fall fair. We have been thinking of getting one or two to live with our chickens. Are there any problems with them living together. I've heard the ducks can eat layer feed. Is this a good combination or will...

Hen has always had trouble laying but now.......

I have an Australorp cross who has always laid extremely thin shelled eggs that always have small calcium build ups all over one end. I've always thought if the shell is thick enough to hold the egg then I guess it is ok. For the past month she has only laid broken eggs. Lately she has been in...

    Eggs!

I would put fake eggs in your boxes or any frozen eggs In the spot you want them to lay. My EE likes to adjust the Shavings in the nesting box for no reason....she's not laying yet.... But she will often kick the golf ball out of the box. Of course All the eggs are then layed on the floor...

    Who's the culprit?

Anyone have any tricks as to find out who is laying eggs? I am trying trying to figure out which hen is responsible. Will she be acting differently than the others? Besides catching her in the act are there any other techniques? She is also laying eggs right beside the nesting box. 6" up...

    Outside area for bedding down?

I have an insulated hen house with a covered run. I was wondering if I should prepare an area outside In the run for them to bed down in during the day? right now they spend most of the day roosting on an outside roost when it gets cold. Will they go inside when it gets really cold? I am...

Wet pullets - how do I make my chickens smarter??

I would cover the whole run if possible. Cold is one thing but cold AND wet is a real problem! A dry run will help keep the smells down as well.
