Skunk found the coop, dog found the skunk.

I used this concoction too. Had two dogs get sprayed badly at the same time. Used a box of baking soda, 1/2 bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and 1 ounce of dawn dish liquid. Smell was completely gone after one bath!!! The hydrogen peroxide can cause blindness if it gets in the dogs eyes though...

    Chicken Coop Heating

I have tile in my coop and two climate controlled heaters in case one breaks. It makes me feel better; although, everyone else seems to think I am nuts.

Sick (?) Cochin hen, running out of ideas

I don't know about being egg bound, but about a month ago I poisoned my hens with some sort of weed. They were not eating, had diarrhea, and not laying at all. Two of the hens plucked their rear feathers due to the poop being stuck to them and being uncomfortable back there. They are all...

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

So I poisoned my hens. With what we still don't know. After weeks of research and multiple conversations with vets and other chicken owners, we concluded that they ate something toxic. I couldn't bring myself to take a live hen for a necropsy, but would have had one done if any of the hens...

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

Thanks again. I am so sorry for you, I was hoping I wouldn't have to research diseases. My girls were all so healthy. We don't let them free-range due to so many predators, so we give them tons of stuff that they would have access to if they were out. Vegetables, fruits, weeds, grasses, hay...

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

Oh no, not a good coincidence to have. Did your chicken die or are you trying to save your flock? I am sorry for you. My hens are not doing to well. I am just sick about it. Been crying all day. Your day doesn't seem like it is going any better. Im in Bucks county where are you located...

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

I think that you should read up on botulism.   Were the tomatoes fresh?  Not every chicken would come down with sour or impacted crop at the same time.  Botulism on the other hand could effect the entire flock if they all ate the same tainted food. [/quote Thanks, I read up on it. The only...

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

I do not see any signs of mites, lice, or any other insect. I have inspected all poop and do not see any signs of worms either.

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

Anyone Else? There is no change today. This was a sudden onset to the whole flock. Still not eating or drinking. Did notice a lot of white in the poop and one has a yellowish poop. Please offer any advice. Thanks

talk to me about older horses and coughing....

Allergies develop over time with horses and the symptoms you described make me 100 percent certain that is what you are dealing with. They usually develop to things that they are continually exposed to. Foods, pollens, insects, etc. I have had several horses with allergies and have done...

Help! Flock Sick, Not Eating, Lethargic, Runny Poo, Color change in eggs to no eggs

About five days ago my hens started acting lethargic. This started after they were given lots of tomatoes (not the plants, the tomato scraps from a huge batch of sauce we were making) They also were getting huge armfuls of weeds from our property. The next day we noticed them all laying in...

    Sex-Links = short life span

Thanks everyone, I feel much better after reading these posts. We wanted eggs and lots of them and that is what we got. We did get our birds from a local hatchery that only breeds two egg layers and two meat birds. They have a great reputation and have been in business for 100 years; however...

    helmet recomendations

Last year a troxel saved my life. I spent years on the barrel/rodeo circuit and would not have been caught dead in a helmet. I few years ago I bought a horse that has a horrible buck in her. Started wearing a helmet while I was training her, but not with the other horses. One day I was ready...

    Sex-Links = short life span

I read on a thread a few days ago about all of the problems with sex-links and early death rates. I can not find it now. I am freaking out. I love my sex-links, they are sweet and lay large eggs daily. We plan on keeping them until they die naturally and were hoping that they would live for...

Do You Have An Opinion On Killing Predators?

Funny!!! My local police department advised me to buy my first handgun for this reason. They told us that the response time could be hours around here on the weekend and that we needed to be able to protect ourselves. As far as predators go, we built our coop and run really secure and don't...

Our barn cats caught a weasel!

Weasels are great climbers and will have no problem getting in wire that size. Chicken is their favorite meal. We lost several large flocks of chickens when I was a kid to weasels. It is pretty traumatizing to find 30 hens dead with bite marks to their necks when you go to collect the eggs...

    Mink problem

I live on Mink Road and have Mink Run Creek run through my backyard, so needless to say we have lots of Minks. They will not stop coming until all of your birds are dead. They spend most of the day sunbathing on the bridge and don't seem to mind noise from equipment of people. Hard to catch...

how does everyone keep their chicken tractors clean or just small coops?

I place a few pieces of newspaper under my roost each night and roll it up to compost each morning. It has worked really well for me. I get the end rolls of newspaper from our local paper and cut it the width of the coop. It has no ink and it's free! I only use two sheets a day and just place...

    Skunk!

This will work instantly. One bath and the odor is totally gone. My dogs pulled one out from its den in broad daylight and then proceeded to fight over it causing two of them to get seriously sprayed. One bath a piece and they were odor free. Just make sure to heavily coat their eyes with...
