Unfortunately, the time has come to sell our rooster. He is a beautiful two month old French Black Copper Maran who has been raised on all organic non- GMO feed, as well as all of the greens and grubs from our garden. He was brought up with four other good lookin ladies and already looks out for...
We also just give them a loving burial and start a new compost pile on top of them. I know this might sound harsh, but I think it's a good way to use everything that the chickens have to offer, even when they are no longer with us.
Haha, I wish I had some magical way to figure out the sex of baby chicks! That would be great! I think that after 12 weeks, if there are no visible signs of a rooster (bright red enlarged comb and waddles) then you might just have a beautiful bunch of girlies!
These are the pictures I took when we first got our chicks, I had no idea what gender they were then. Now they are about 2 months old and it is VERY clear that we have a rooster, haha.
I'm excited more people are getting into gardening and growing their own food! I would think about growing as much as you can vertically by trellising things like your tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, etc. It helps in saving room on the ground, room that you could use to grow even more veggies!
We have 1 Barred Rock, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Blue Ameraucana, 1 French Black Copper Maran, 1 Brown Leghorn, 1 Brahma, 1 Gold Laced Wyandotte!
71,155 + 7 =71,162
I am happy to report that all of my birds (french black copper maran, gold laced wyandotte, brahma, blue ameraucana, and brown leghorn) from Chickens Galore started out happy and healthy and have stayed that way since we first picked them up. The owner is extremely helpful and patient and keeps...
Thanks GardeNerd! I appreciate the quick response and the feedback! I definitely need to join the Los Angeles Chicken Enthusiasts. I will keep everyone updated on my experience at Chickens Galore.
Hey guys!
Has anyone visited or purchased birds from Chickens Galore in Norco, Ca? I'm interested in getting some standard and specialty breed layer chicks (welsummer, gold laced wyandotte, easter eggers, ameraucanas, blue/lavender orpingtons, anaconas, silkies, blue hamburg, & blue...
She still isn't peeping and her "gasping" has gone down a little. HOWEVER, it doesn't matter whether she is standing or sitting she has her head cocked to the side like it is broken. Not so sure this is a good sign. If anyone has any suggestions on what could be causing this or what this is...
Yep, that's what mine looked like! She didn't peep at all but she had the same movements only less exaggerated. Today is only the first full day she has been on the antibiotics so there hasn't been much change. I have noticed she is eating a little bit more, I made mash for them yesterday so I...
Just to update y'all, I went to the vet today and he said it sounded like an upper respiratory infection or MG. He gave me an antibiotic, Enrofloxacin 10mg, to give to her twice a day.
Directly under the light the temp is between 95-90, away from the light is 90-85, and the shaded part is around 85-80. I set it up that way so they could decide what temp they liked best and because 2 of my other chicks are about a week or two older than the little sick one.
She looks extra...
The pine, shockingly enough, isn't very fragrant at all. She seems to be drinking and eating less, besides the meal worms we keep treating her to. Since my last post I heated up some VetRx and put a small drop down her throat, I cant say that she liked it very much, or that it helped at all. We...
