    Is this a LASH EGG??

Can someone help me with this? I found it yesterday under the area my chicken roost when I was cleaning the coop (poop zone). I have 4 hens... I have noticed that occasionally this spring one of them has had eggs without shells and they are in the "poop zone" not the nest box. All my hens...

    All 4 Hens stopped laying?

I have 4 hens. They are 10 months old. They were all laying regularly... Albeit smaller pullet eggs. One went broody. I took her off nest and put her in a rabbit cage next to run so she would stop her brood and still be near her flock. She's been back with flock now for two weeks. Problem...

    Wierd hen sound

My buff orp is a sweet hen. She went broody last week- now she's up and about. But... Instead of making her normal clucking sound, it's like she lost her voice or something. She is making this distinct clipped, single note honk sound. It's WIERD! Her comb is a darker but otherwise I can't see...

    Wyandotte-- one comb? Roo??

I have four chicks. My two Wyandottes are 7 1/2 weeks old. The golden laced one has a single comb which seems weird. Also can't tell if it is a roo or a hen. :D Opinions please

[I bought four chicks hoping 4 hens but prepared for at least one roo. My chicks are four and a half weeks old. I'm pretty sure my golden laced is a rooster:(. Question... What about my Delaware? I think it's a hen but would love opinions...

    HELP! SOMETHING QUITE WRONG...

I have never had a sick chicken. Yesterday all was well. Today, my year old GLW is lathargic, not eating, tail down. I picked her up and she has white drippy discharge from vent. I have separated her from the other girls. Please look at the photos and see if anything looks familiar to you...

    broody hen

My hen has gone broody. I haven't any roosters so this is just a waste of time! I read the thread on using a dog crate... but alas I only have a plastic one, not a wire one. Should I confine her to that or should I try something else?

    simple garden solution

I read a bunch of threads on how to keep chickens out of the garden. I don't want a fence around mine since I like the look. I don't want an automated sprinkler because I have dogs and I dont want them wet all the time. So, I screwed on a $5 sprinkler to my hose and set it up so that it is...

My RIR hen is 21 weeks old. She is not laying yet. The past two weeks she has become aggresive.. I have tried to hand feed her and pick her up but to no avail. She bit me twice today! I have tried avoiding her but she chases me. I have tried chasing HER but she ran away and bit me later...

    Got my first egg!!!

Phew... as I was looking at my chickens and having serious thoughts of crock pot meals... I saw a small stone on the floor of the run that looked out of place... TA DA, first egg. Now... why was it on the floor and not in a nicely prepared nest that I have set up complete with golf balls???

    So sad.. no eggs

My 5 hens are 20 weeks and not an egg in sight. RIR, Buff Orp, blk sex link, easter egger and GLW. They all look healthy and happy... chucked a few golf balls in the nests today... the wait continues..

    when do they roost??

My 5 chicks are 6 weeks old. They have all their feathers and are healthy. They live in a safe coop and it has a roost bar about 18 inches off the ground... I don't have a lamp in the coop and I don't have heat. I am south of San Francisco and the weather is high 60s-70's at this point...

    how to secure pop door

My run is complete as is the coop... or that's what I thought. My pop door is on a hinge and it is REALLY a pain to open and close.. and secure with a lock. So, I need to make it into a pop door with a pulley. My problem is, I want it to lock and I don't want to crawl into the run every night...

    Funny Little Chicks!!!

My 5 chicks ar 5 weeks old. They live in their coop and have no light any more since it's nice in the SF bay area (at least in my yard!). Anyway, every night they have just huddled together in their warm pine shavings EXCEPT FOR LAST NIGHT. They decided to be "big hens" and roost. What a...

    Which hen should go??

We picked out 5 chicks. We anticipated one would be a roo... well, we are 4/5 weeks in and I think they are all hens. Yes, that is good news; however I think we need to sell one or give one away due to space. I am debating between the black sex link or the golden laced whyandotte. I think...

    please help with run concept

Ok, I have finished my coop and need to make the run. I know what I want but I'm stuck with practicality so I need some help... You can see the coop below. I have moved in now and have it on cinder blocks. The pop door is actually on the opposite side of that bigger door (left of the egg...

    mine aren't friendly :(

My 5 chicks (3-4 weeks old) run from me. I not real concerned... until I hear other people say things like their chicks sit on their fingers and come on over when called. I figure they are chickens... but I'm kinda bummed they are afraid of me.

    Finished my coop!!!

I finished my coop and put my chicks in today! What a feeling of accomplishment! Gotta give myself a pat on the back since Im in my mid 40's, a mom and have NO building experience. I did 90% of the cuts with a hand saw using patio furniture as saw horses. My only saw is a 25 year old jig...
