I had 4 mommas hatch out 22 babies and they are sharing them. It's super sweet to watch!!
Now I have a duck and a chicken sharing a nest of fake eggs. Has anyone had a duck and chicken successfully brood together? I would give them duck eggs.
I just ran out to check on mom and the eggs. She was off her nest eating in the coop. There wa a chick just coming out of the shell. I stayed back and just watched. When she returned to the nest she started attacking the chick. Picked it up and shook it. I got the chick away from her and no...
Broody #1 has ended up back on her own nest(after switching nests a gazillion times with the other broodies). It was day 21 for her yesterday and 2 out of the 3 left have pipped! I can't wait to watch momma hen take care of her babies!
I have 4 broody hens now! But there is one big concern I have. Al the eggs are due at different times. One clutch is due this Sunday. Clutch #2 is due next Wednesday. Clutch #3 and #4 are due in a couple weeks(a couple days apart). Anyways the girls keep fighting over nests and keep swapping...
I have a genesis 1588(the new type). I incubated according to the instructions that came with it. It was preset to 100 degrees ad I kept one well filled(stayed around 50-55% humidity). For lockdown I removed the automatic turner and filled the 2nd well(was up to 65-70% humidity so a little...
Thanks! I now have another hen sitting too! If she continues to sit all day and tonight, I'll give her a few eggs. Of course I just put 32 eggs in the bator 2 weeks ago!
You are welcome to come see them if you want! I had ordered 21 and they sent 2 extra and all 23 are doing well. I ordered the deluxe runner assortment so I have a lot of different colors. I am in the process of learning what all the colors are. It's still a little hard for me to tell too...
Right now I have a mixed flock. Next year we plan to set up breeding pens. I plan to focus on coloreds and reds. I also want to start a salmon project!
I'd be up for a BBQ!! Yes all my rabbits are pedigreed and can come with papers! I was picky about where my angoras were coming from. I am only on my 3rd litter and haven't yet bred any from my own but soon I will! I don't show but I did make sure to buy show quality breeding stock as breeding...
I am asking $60 each for the english/German. This is my first year doing chickens so I don't know about exactly how well the dorking will preform as a meat bird. Hopefully they will do well because I'm pretty set on raising only dorkings! :)
