Looking for Hatching eggs in OK

I am looking to buy hatching eggs in Oklahoma. I want several dozen and would like to find folks wiling to sell me eggs often. I hatch and sell chicks. I only ask that the eggs be pure, i.e. not mutts. Other than that, breed really isn't all that important. I would rather not buy leghorns...

weak yolk, blood in yolk and fluid in egg

I have a small flock of leghorns and white rocks. Lately, some of the eggs have fluid (looks like water) in the egg. At first we were boiling them and thought the shell had a crack. But the other day I cracked one frying and it had water in the egg. The yolks are having trouble staying together...

    Brown Broilers from Ideal

I raised a set of brown broilers this time for killing. They are decent size at 11 weeks, but nothing like the cornish rock crosses. They are much healthier birds. They do not eat as much as the crosses. I will kill them at 12 or 13 weeks and see what they weigh out. They are beautiful birds. I...

    Possum Round 2

So just 10 days ago or so, we had a possum in the silkie house. When I tried to get my dog to attack it or bite it or bark at it, he wouldn't do anything. Now admittedly, it was already dead. So, I spent about a half an hour (at 1:30AM) in my PJs, no shoes on, throwing the possum around...

okay, just got the sportsman running

I adjusted both wafers. I just have to say... COOL!!!! That thing is awesome. No wonder the hatches are so good. It is keeping the temp coming out of the heater within 1 degree. Amazing! BTW, I need another one of those crooked bolts for the wafers. I have an 8/32 n it now. Is that thread a 10/32?

A friend of mine has loaned me a sportsman

It had been robbed of parts and I almost have it completely together again. Does anyone have any setup advise for me? How about hatching advise. This guy said that he hatched quail in it, so he would set one tray per week and then move the eggs to the bottom for hatching and refill the tray so...

138 in bater hatch on the 18th

Last time, I set 130, candled and culled to 83 and ended with 51 hatched. I don' have any idea if that is good or bad. I think bad, but it's because I found a cold place in the bater. I have marked all the eggs by position in the bater and I believe I have fixed the temp. Right now, I have 3...

How long should I feed out before killing

I have 5 roosters the oldest of which is one year. All are pretty good size. I am going to butcher them, so I pinned them up for now and wondered how long I need to feed them out before killing to get a good quality bird. They have been free range for the most part.

    possum in the silkie house

I heard the silkies making noise about 15 minutes ago, I go outside and they are freaking out. Then as I approach I see a possum's ugly snout sticking out of the house door. I grabbed a square nose shovel, trapped his head on the ground for a while, picked him up with the shovel, threw him in...

Set 130 eggs for a hatch on the 22nd - Updated!

This is the largest group I have set so far, but my bater has hatched a couple sets now and I am gaining confidence. Some of my eggs are about 9 days old, others pulled today. Once I candle on day 7 I will cull and count. Anyone else set for the 22nd?

    Frustrated at manufacturers

I just built a bigger bater. I went out and got new thermometers and an acurite hygrometer/thermometer. So I calibrated them. Placed the glass thermometers in a cup of slushy ice water. 36 degrees, on both. Put hygrometer in zip lock bag with cup of 1/2cp salt and 1/4cp water for 10 hours...

Have a pip 24 hours old, when do I intervene - UPDATE - New hatch

I have a pip that pipped yesterday at this time. He has not zipped, only pipped. He is moving around, but he is not really making progress. If I grabbed a pair of tweezers and helped him zip a little would that be bad???

CLOSED - GQF/Hovabater quail egg trays for auto turner

I was given two GQF 1611 turners today and one of them has 6 quail egg trays in it. I need chicken egg trays. Since a lot of people buy the turners then buy the quail egg trays, I figured I would see if someone just wanted to trade trays.

    Getting in the NPIP program

I am signing up for the NPIP program in Oklahoma. Does anyone know where to get your flock tested for Typhoid - Pollorum? Does the state take care of that when you sign up? Do any of you participate?

Hatching two sets of eggs - UPDate

The answer is, don't do that. I know, but it's done. So I built a bater. I put in some leghorn eggs to test with and everything is going well. The whole reason for the eggs was to test the bater and watch it perform because I was anxiously waiting some malay eggs. So I got the Malay eggs in...

    Canning meats

I don't know how many of you ever canned meats, but until this year, I had not. I am a pastor and spend a lot of time visiting elderly folks. Of course, they canned most everything; sausage, pork, chicken, everything. Last year we had a power outage during the ice storm. We were down for 6 days...
