    New Agressive Behavior?

We had a lone pekin also for almost a year. We got two mallards as babies and she didn't like them at all. We kept them separated from her in the same pen by wire for a few weeks because she would sort of flock them. When they got a little bigger we noticed she started letting them around her...

25 days old "female" Pekin crying?

I don't know about crying but one of mine had a hurt leg and it whined like a dog. I just wanted to say they are adorable though. They look healthy to me but that not saying to much.

    Crickets/Meal Worms

I do use the dried meal worms for a treat for my ducks. Thanks for the warning about over feeding them. I tried to control it but it seems like we go thru a lot of them. I will have to caution the rest of the family again about over feeding them.

    Crickets/Meal Worms

Ok that's exactly the post I was talking about its in the sticky at the top of the forum. I tried to find it by searching but I couldn't find any where else saying they were dangerous. I did find a lot about growing your own. It seems very easy if you could stand it just a container 10 inches...

    Duck feeding advice?

Yeah it's moveable but you don't have to move it right...lol. Yeah I guess I wasn't thinking about the food thing, but my mallards don't really care about food. They eat it but they can't be bribed with food. My pekin can be bribed with mill worms, but something about that door she would just...

    Duck feeding advice?

I don't know anything about chickens at all, so I really can't give an option about them. I know ducks really don't like change so I'm wondering if you would have a problem with a moveable house. We made some changes to our pen door and I had a problem getting One of my ducks to go in for a...

    Duck feeding advice?

This is Metzers recommendation for over weight ducks http://metzerfarms.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html I feed my 3 ducks at bedtime with a 16 oz cup usually not all the way full. When I let them out in the morning they start foraging right away. They don't get fed any more until night...

    Duck Sexing (Pic Heavy)

Yes those are mallards. As far as sex I'm not really sure, mine was born at the end of April and I'm not sure their sex either. One of mine has a darker bill, more black. One has more white on the tip of its tail feathers but that's basically the only difference. I really can't voice sex...

Ducks afraid of new food dish

My duck really got upset when I was making some changes to the door of their pen. Luckily it was my pekin because we can pick her up at anytime. It took her a few days to get use to it millworms couldn't even bribe her inside. I think you would of had better luck locking them up with the new...

New to ducks & this site!

I provide a bucket so it's deep enough to get their head in but not their body. A lot use kiddie pools for them to bath in, but they do drink their bath water. You might as well forget about keeping their drinking water clean because the first drink they take it's dirty again. I change their...

    Hurt leg

She appear to be on the mend I think. She was still eating and her droppings appear normal a little runny but my duck don't really have solid droppings. Are they suppose to? She only dropped the other side wing the very first day when she tried to walk. Her wing has appeared normal since...

what kind of ducks to get???

We put up one of those really cheap wire fences around our garden and they never go around it. When we were out there planting things they were curious but the wire fence was to much trouble to bother with. Our front porch is off limits to them also. They come right up to it but don't get...

New to ducks & this site!

Is layer food ok for drakes? My ducks basically stay within my sight. I can go outside and see them at most times unless they go in the over grown lot next door. I holler and they respond quacking away. They haven't went over there in sometime though. They have a routine basically since...

I want to thank you all for such speedy replies and excellent advice. She is doing much better she is still limping slightly. She walks on her leg some and is getting around pretty good. It was so funny I would let the other ducks out and it was useless they would forage a bit then go right...
