The parent stock is closely related due to me not being able to find any other pure stock thats not from hatchery stock. but thought that if there was a problem with that, they just wouldnt hatch. will try the vitamins in the parent flock though
I have been having problems with poults dying after a couple days of doing fine after hatch. Occasionally I have a poult that hatches and just never does well. I understand that this happens. but it seems that every batch has at least one or two poults, that do fine for a couple days, and then...
i sell eggs on ebay, and there are several different breeds on there. im selling royal palm eggs now. good luck. let me know if you want some my username on there is codwalk
I cant let my wild birds out of their pen because they will either fly away or wander off until i find them and herd them back. too much trouble and worry about they staying gone or getting killed. They are naturally much flightier than the tame(heritage breeds). I believe they get stressed out...
before i penned my birds they would always hide their nest as mentioned above, they would decide to start setting, and within a night or two all i would have are feathers....after the coyote (or other predator) ate her..i then decided to build a pen and havent had too much trouble since. i...
he is definitely a bronze at best. possibly a mutt. my bronze turkeys never had any solid wing feathers. a wild turkey (and all my bronze) would have striped(barred) wing feathers.
when breeding an eastern wild to your standard bronze, the poults will most likely be majority a mix between those light colors and the dark colors. depending how light your bronze tom is, you will likely end up with offspring that look like a rio grande or close to it. I raise pure rio grandes...
i personally dont have a "coop" for my birds. i have them in a flight pen made out of dog kennel panels. 6' tall with pvc pipe arched in the middle of each pen to make the netting higher. i then have 2x4s 6' high that they roost on. my total pen is 60'x30' and right now it is divided up into 4...
i agree with R2elk and Gray Farms. As a turkey hunter, I am always looking for a tom with multiple beards and bearded hens. I think its pretty cool. However, I do not show my birds and dont plan to. It is definitely a genetic thing too. A couple years ago I bought a bronze tom that had 3 beards...
i have a flock of bronze turkeys that i have been breeding the same tom to his daughters. this year will be the fourth generation. i have the first batch of eggs in the incubator and i have lost several eggs. wondering if i need to get a new tom or not. any help would be great.
i have been having a lot of trouble as well. but im thinking that the majority of my problems are mechanical error. set 74 eggs have 12 living still. set 20 more, then 3 days later set 7 or 8 more, thermometer was bad. didnt realize it until day 7 on the first batch. only 2 or 3 forming. all but...
she is doing a great job so far. idk if i should take some away from her or let her keep all of them. not sure how my tom and other hens will act towards her and the poults since she has been in a separate pen the majority of the time she was on the nest. she has 7 right now. 3 left to hatch. 2...
i have some poults that range from about a month old to almost 2 months old. how old should they be before i introduce them into my flock of one tom and 2 or 3 hens. one hens is hatching out her own poults right now in a separate pen and another hen is setting. so basically there will just be...
