@speckledhen chick #1's wing feathers are now growing in barred black/white, while chick #2 has all white wing feathers. Does the wing color not matter? If not I'll repost pics at a month old. Thanks!
Hi everybody! I picked up a couple day-old Delaware chicks yesterday and although I know it's probably too early to sex them I can't help but notice some big differences in them. I was hoping if any of you have experience with these cute lil fuzz balls and KNEW one was a cockerel I could bring...
Aww bummer!! Thank you all for clearing that up for me. I'm in city limits and cannot keep anything but hens. I'll be finding this sweet guy a home out in the country with a friend.
I appreciate all of your responses! :)
Hello,
One of my "girls" crowed on Saturday. I got really sad and started looking for a home for him thinking he must be a rooster (I live in city limits and roosters are not allowed). I posted an ad with his picture in my neighborhood site hoping someone outside city limits would want him. I...
I grew up in Watsonville back and forth between Amesti Rd (at dad's) and the Aptos end of Freedom Blvd (at mom's)! Such a small world. :) You live off the 49 now? I think we go camping off the 49…? Coloma Resort in Coloma near Lotus, is that near you?
I saw Purina and Manna Pro chicken grit at the feed store. Can I use this for my chicks on the occasion that they get a small treat or is there specific chick grit? I haven't been able to find any that specifies as for chicks as opposed to chickens.
The only thing that keeps me under control is the fact that I live in suburbia and don't want to get more hens than I'm allowed. I'd hate to have the neighbors make a complaint and an animal control officer force me to get rid of anyone. That said, I'm not allowed to have a duck in city limits...
Thanks @Sam3 Abq
Thanks Sam! My husband found a picture of something similar to this on the internet and drew it out. It only took about 6 hours (with THREE trips to the hardware store! Haha). Best of luck in your brooder building. If you have any questions I'm sure my husband can offer some...
April is only two weeks away. I know you are anxious but I think you should try to be patient and be thankful that your dad is willing to devote his extra time to building you a coop. Why don't you instead focus on learning everything you can about taking care of your chicks and give your dad a...
My chicks are 4 weeks old. When I got the first 3 at the local feed store everyone was fine for the first couple days. Then one morning I woke up and the smallest one had died during the night. I had no idea why. I removed it and when my two and a half year old son woke up he kept asking where...
