    Coop placement question.

When I was little we had a tree smack in the middle of our run and never closed the top off with screen. One night a racoon must had jumped from tree to tree to get on that one in the run. He climbed down one night and opened the chix door and took a rooster. So when I got chickens we put the...

I was always kicking around having goats/sheep. Have about 3 acres to spare. I have been picking the brain of a gentleman my husband works with. His wife raises goats. I am just exploring info to see if it is for me. Is there any good books out there to read? If I get goats I was looking...

Our garden shed - recycled into a chicken coop

I have a question: I noticed you have a water pump next to the coop. How did you do that? We have one by the house but it is tapped into the water line going into the house. The builder did it. I would love one by the coop! Thank you

    CACKLE HATCHERY

Thank you for your input. Seems like I might order from Cackle since you can order 5 chicks and not 25. As for show quality I am not looking for, it is for the eggs. I like the dark choc. and colored eggs personally.

    CACKLE HATCHERY

They list "Easter Eggers" as a rare breed. It's not a breed and it's not rare. I guess people like those blue and green eggs. Are you looking for a particular breed? If you aren't particular about breed, you can get some very good deals through many of the hatcheries. That is why I used...

    CACKLE HATCHERY

I recieved a catalog from Cackle Hatchery (never ordered one) and was browsing through the pages. They claim they ship pure bred poultry. When I saw the prices I was shocked. For example: "Easter Egg Chicken" 5 pullets for $14.95. I know prices have went up but good grief is this how much...

    Moving a Coop/Shed

Wonder if anyone has any suggestions or answers on moving a 8x6 shed, it was converted into a coop. Have no chickens in it for a good 4 years but starting back up. Unfortuntly we aquired dogs (one a Lab) and their pen is next to the coop. I know the Lab will try her darnest to dig and try to...

Can a free range hen raise chicks and protect them?

YES!! My SIL (who lives next door to us) rented her house out 2 years before we built next to her. Well, the renters had broken down cars in her yard and the chickens they owned used them as their "coops". The renters moved out one night and SIL moved back to her house. She just let the hens...
