Yesterday I noticed that my buff brahma ( 10 months old) looked like her crop was still full in the morning. I picked her up and yes her crop was large and squishy. Someone mentioned that it was sour crop .I googled sour crop and then I looked her over again better . Her chest area is large but...

Has anyone used a corrugated drain pipe for their feeders ? I have been trying without success to find the parts to make a pvc feeder . It seems like every store is either out of the right size pieces or is out of stock on a piece . I have a black 4 in corrugated pipe that I can use though . I...

Windows , roost bar & nest box placement

My coop will be 4 x 8 . I was planning on putting the windows on one east facing side which will be 8 ft long and and having an 8 ft long roost bar . I see many people put the roost bar near windows so that the chickens can see out the windows . Would having the roost bar near the windows make...

My chicks have gone crazy .

Maybe they feel like they need a party for being 2 weeks old . These guys have been running all over the brooder , flying across the brooder and trying to fly out , sitting on top of the feed and waterer , chicken fighting with each other and dust bathing all in the last 2 days . Wow , what a...

    ramp to chicken door

I plan to build my coop with space under the coop so the chickens can go under it if they want . My question is how high of a ramp to the chicken door can they manage . Can I build the coop with 2 or 3 ft under it and they walk up a long ramp to get in ? Or do they need a shorter ramp and height ?

    sand for the brooder

I bought sand for the brooder , it is paver sand not play sand . There are some tiny rocks in the sand the largest is about 1/4 in sized . Will this be a problem for day old chicks if they eat them ? I plan on putting a towel or paper towels down over the sand for the first week or so .

welded wire fence for coop run

I am wondering if it would work out to use welded wire fence ( 2in x 4 in ) to fence in the coop's run . I would make a 2ft apron extending outward from the run so predators can not dig under . Then I could run hardware cloth a few feet up the sides of the run . I would think that animals will...
