Here are pictures of my bucket feeder with a rain hood made of pipe that just slips into the 90 degree elbow. http://www.backyardchickens.com/g/a/7328926/bucket-feeder#

I went with the bucket feeders 18 months ago and have had no problems. I used a 5 gallon bucket and three 3 inch (I think, could be 4") elbows and there was just enough room for the three elbows to fit. There are different styles/diameters of 5 gallon buckets so have one on hand at the store...

Nice discussion of pro's and con's. I went with the bucket feeders 18 months ago and have had no problems. I used a 5 gallon bucket and three 3 inch (I think, could be 4") elbows and there was just enough room for the three elbows to fit. There are different styles/diameters of 5 gallon...

I'm buying bagged layer crumbles at Tractor Supply in Paradise for 12.99 a bag. It's Dumore which I believe is their house brand. The chooks seem to love it. There is a mill in Ogden that is a bit cheaper as well that I considered. But I decided the extra $3 per 50 pounds is worth the...

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

If you haven't already, next time try tearing it with a hook. A couple of quick passes with a sharp hook made easy work of that part of the procedure on the few I did.

Yes, something like 90% of the meat rabbits produced in the US are NZW. They are also very competitively shown. We bought our stock from one of the top NZ rabbitries in the country thinking the kids may raise some 4H projects, we will likely sell breeding stock, and we will raise some for the table.

We have New Zealand Whites from a very good line from California. We just started a couple of months ago. We have one doe in production and 2 more that are a couple of months away from their first breeding.

Our first egg came yesterday afternoon. I believe it was laid by a GSL at 19 1/2 weeks. The egg is well formed with a nice shell but it is small yet. Fresh egg is the brown one next to an extra large white commercial egg for reference. The sign that something was up was the dramatic increase...

Pfrosty I have no idea what is wrong with your chicken and I have little experience with chickens. However, when I read you post this came to mind. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-great-big-giant-mareks-disease-faq There are several conditions catalogged in that post, not just Mareks...

I purchased all the pullets at the same time about 18 weeks ago as day old chicks about 18 weeks ago. In the last week some are suddenly sprouting dark red combs and wattles. In your experience, how far away from their first egg would they be? I just bought a new bag of grower feed about a...

Nice video! I wish I had found it before I did the first ones. Looks just like what I do except I use a loop to remove the testicle rather than forceps. It takes about 5 minutes start to finish on one side, unless I suture then it takes a couple more minutes. Obviously the Chinese videos...

I think it is on this forum that a few people have asked about keeping rabbits with chickens. Here are some pictures of our chicken run with rabbit cages added a few weeks ago. Seems to be working out fine.
