My chicken just pooped this! Help! What is it?

She is a bantam Cochin hen, around a year or so old. I happened to be standing bear her when she pooped and saw this! It looks like angel hair pasta, and moves so I'm guessing its some sort of worm? What is it and what so I do? She has no symptoms of being sick.

    bare bellies...feather picking?

I just got a bunch of new chickens to add to my flock. I was told they are a little over a year old. The majority of them have bare " picked" bellies. What does this mean? I am thinking how they used to roost, maybe it allowed for feather picking there as from on top they appear normal. And...

Chicken poo - What should it look like?

I want to make sure I am feeding my chickens the right thing. As their poo looks funny to me, and they make a mess with the feed. I am feeding my chickens pellets, says its 18% protein, sometimes they get scraps from the kitchen which means breads or vegetables. Sometimes they get scratch...

EE or Americana? How do you know which is which?

I just got 2 hens that I was told were Aracaunas. After reading on this site under chicken breeds, I have figured out they are not Aracaunas as my chickens have tail feathers and I understand that those types of chickens are tail-less. But, when I read the descriptions on EE and Americaunas...

How long do Mille Fleur bantams lay for?

How long do Mille Fleur bantams lay for? I've got 2 hens that will be 2 in June. Neither one has given me an egg for awhile. Maybe it's the cold winter or maybe they are done? I'm trying to decide if I sned them to a new home as non-layers or if I need to be more patient.

Heart attack? huh? Old age? Cause of death?

I went out to my coop this morning and one of my barred rocks that is probably around a year and a half old was dead. Her eyes were closed, she was in the coop, nothing looks amiss, and all my other chickens (8 left now) are just fine. I am told that it is common for chickens to have heart...

    Cull it? A sneezy chicken?

I have a Mille Fleur bantam hen. She has been sneezy, like constantly since beginning of May or so. I noticed recently she has a slight runny nose. You look at her and she just looks like she has a bad cold, her coloring seems lighter in the head area. I have never seperated her from the...

Getting chicken greedy, do I have the room?

I am thinking of getting another chicken, but am debating if I have the appropriate room. quick responses are appreciated as I am supposed to go get my new hen in the morning. Here is what my set up is like: the floor of the roosting coop area is 4x4, they are obviously on the roosts up...

Is a little blood in the egg normal?

I think it's my barred rocks that are laying eggs that have a couple dots of blood in them once you crack the egg. They have always been like that, nothing new, the chickens are probably over a year old, but it makes me not want to sell or give away my eggs just in case there is a little blood...

I clipped mine when I first got them because they were all older and kept flying out of my coop area. Just wondering how common it is to clip their wings.

    is bread bad for chickens?

I heard somewhere that bread is not great to give chickens. Maybe it is the sugars in the bread and it gives them diahrea? What do you all think? I've got a loaf on my counter and a pile of pancakes that I am wanting to take out to the girls but thought I'd gather your thoughts first. TIA.

    Plymouth Rock/Barred Rock same thing?

I have what I have always called barred rock hens, and just this weekend I went to a poultry show and only saw plymouth rocks, that looked just like my barred rocks. Are they the same bird? Or are those 2 different chickens?

Chicken anatomy, is there just one hole?

I feel like everyone but me will know the answer to this, so I feel a little dumb asking. Does the egg and the poo come out of the same hole? My eggs look a little poopy at times, and I haven't inspected too closely, but it seems like there is only one hole back there... Thanks in advance for...

    Packing Peanuts?

I've never ordered chicks, so I am wondering what "packing peanuts" are that I am reading about on here. Do "they" send random extra baby chicks to fill up your box? If so, are they free?

    Decoding the acronyms

I am new to chickens, and as I read on here, everyone refers to their chicken breeds in acronyms. Some I can figure out, and others I have no clue! I have 2 BR (barred rocks), 2 EE (easter eggers), 3 MFB (millie fleur bantams), 1 Cochin, 1 ? I call her caramel girl, she is white and caramel...

New chicks added to old chicks?

I am wondering what you all do when you get new chicks. Do you add them to your existing flock? Do you sell/give away your existing flock and just start a "new" flock each year? I've noticed my chickens don't roll out the welcoming rug to new chickens, I assume this is normal, so wondering...
