I am hoping that anyone who has, or has had Red Star hens can tell me if they lay for more than 2 to 3 years.....I have also read they do not live very long. Thanks for any information you can give.

I do not know about anyone else's Hamburgs but mine only laid 6 months out of the year. They were no more flighty then the other breeds of hens, but much more territorial.

Hello from Cleves, a small town west of Cincinnati, and almost at the Indiana border. I presently have 2 hybrid hens but have had Hamburgs, RIRs, and BRs.

What I like about the differences is I know which of my 2 hybrids has laid an egg.

To be honest if you can't keep her separate from the others until she is their size, and I realize your other chickens will also continue to grow. Then I would take her back. I fear the others would torture her too much, not letting her eat and drink. I have added chickens of similar size...

I am just curious how you feel about broody hens? I myself have had them and NEVER want them again, but others love broody hens. The only problem I have run into with just 2 hens is if one dies you need another? In my opinion introducing new hens is not easy, have done it but... wow.

Hi, just got 2 black star pullets around 15 weeks old. They have black legs and beak. I do not understand how you take a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock, both who have yellow beaks and legs and produce an hen with black beak and legs. Can someone help me understand? thanks
