I want a good layer like sexlinks but...

I do not know about anyone else's Hamburgs but mine only laid 6 months out of the year. They were no more flighty then the other breeds of hens, but much more territorial.

    HELP MY FLOCK IS GONE!

Shelby, I am very sorry about your chicks. And like the rest have no room to judge you as I have done things with my hens, like think i was smarter than a hawk. My hens paid for it. Question, since we could say something came and was able to take your chicks, then could it come back and do...

    Introducing smaller chickens

To be honest if you can't keep her separate from the others until she is their size, and I realize your other chickens will also continue to grow. Then I would take her back. I fear the others would torture her too much, not letting her eat and drink. I have added chickens of similar size...

    Need help narrowing down breeds!

I am just curious how you feel about broody hens? I myself have had them and NEVER want them again, but others love broody hens. The only problem I have run into with just 2 hens is if one dies you need another? In my opinion introducing new hens is not easy, have done it but... wow.

    Hamburg laying patterns

I am not sure if this is a new thread or not. A number of years ago I got 3 Hamburg pullets from a hatchery. They would lay only from mid March until they molted in September. Am just wondering is others have or are experiencing the same with their hatchery Hamburgs? A ratio of laying about...

    Murray McMurray Hatchery?

OK, so here is my story about Murray McMurray. Started January 2015, order 2 started pullets ready to lay. 1 BR and 1 RIR both raised in Wacco Texas. 2015 was OK and winter came fine. By Spring 2016 the BR started laying eggs with no shells. RIR was fine, eggs no big but laid many. By June...

    where to purchase started pullets?

Can anyone suggest another breeder/hatchery to get started pullets besides McMurray? Have ordered 6 pullets from McMurray in the past two years. Got a RIR that went broody each month, a BR I had to put down due to laying internally, 2 BSL had to rehome, laid tiny almost white eggs. One hen...

color of beak and legs of a black star hen

Hi, just got 2 black star pullets around 15 weeks old. They have black legs and beak. I do not understand how you take a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock, both who have yellow beaks and legs and produce an hen with black beak and legs. Can someone help me understand? thanks
