Blue and Splash Ameraucana Cockerels in Southern NH (Merrimack)

I have 2 6 month old cockerels (hatched April 24 and May 5) - 1 blue and 1 splash. (this guy was either attacked by a bird of prey or the blue guy below. He has healed up nicely though.) I also have 3 4.5 month old blue/splash cockerels (hatched June 22). These are all out of Deer...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

After having 10 chicks chain hatching yesterday, I only had one hatch today and it was rough! Currently chilling in the incubator in a cup, it keeps falling on its back and has curled toes (oh and umbilical cord was still attached to its shell ...). Toes are taped, hopefully a night in the cup...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

So far I've had 7 blue Ameraucana and 3 Ameraucana mixes hatch out. The mixes surprised me in that they look black, but dad is a splash. I am assuming there are different genes controlling black feathering? Left blue, right I believe is a dark gray Dorking x splash Ameraucana. Hoping a few more...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Peeps are popping in my incubator :jumpy Just have a question about this one: Obviously the membrane is getting dried out. The hatched chicks knocked this one so that crack was facing down for the last couple hours and there was no more movement. Just recently it started unzipping again, does...

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

I've been loving this hatch-a-long thread and seriously, I really want to hatch out some new ducklings now ... However, I set 22 eggs Tuesday of last week: 19 ameraucana eggs (blue or splash chicks) and 3 ameraucana mixes. I candled them tonight and I could easily make out developing chicks in...

Chick hatched under broody hen but was abandoned promptly

Just a quick update - I left the chick's legs hobbled for 24 hours. She was standing and trying to walk by the end of that, so I removed them and she started stumbling around alright. Appetite was good. 24 hours later and you would never have known there was any issue, besides the big scab on...

Chick hatched under broody hen but was abandoned promptly

Thanks so much for offering some help :) I cleaned the wound with saline solution and have been getting the little peeper to drink every now and again. Still doesn't seem to be able to stand and its left leg (one that has the cut on it) seems to not go under its body properly. I have taped up...

Chick hatched under broody hen but was abandoned promptly

I hatched out some eggs a week ago that were under a broody hen, but I ended up finishing them up in my incubator. There had been a few eggs that had been added on after the initial eggs I had set, and I could not tell them apart any more (crushed egg ended up getting them all dirty ...). I gave...

4 day old chick lethargic but sporadically 'popcorning'

Thank you! I am going to switch the brooder out and sanitize everything in case this was a virus! I find it very interesting that your chick was falling asleep so quickly. My chick would be standing/walking, I'd pick it up and it was like it lost all of its energy almost instantly. I wonder if I...

4 day old chick lethargic but sporadically 'popcorning'

Thanks everyone who offered advice, very much appreciate you all taking the time. Sadly, the little chick was gone by this morning. Happily all the other chicks are zooming around and acting healthy. I did not leave the chicks with the hen that brooded them because she only likes to sit in the...

4 day old chick lethargic but sporadically 'popcorning'

I've been giving the chick raw yolk mixed with vitamin E/b complex/water every couple of hours. Chick has pooped and been pecking at food in the brooder. After putting it away after the last feeding, it walked around, pecked in the feed trough, but then started doing this: Lasted about 5...

4 day old chick lethargic but sporadically 'popcorning'

Unfortunately there was no selenium or E + selenium. I'll go out later and search some other stores, just wanted to get something in the little. When I got home, the sick chick was at least standing and walking with the group. I picked it up and it went pretty limp .... Started doing the...

4 day old chick lethargic but sporadically 'popcorning'

Thank you so much, I will grab these supplements on my way home and start treatment. Selenium can be bought in the vitamin section for humans or should I try a feed store?

4 day old chick lethargic but sporadically 'popcorning'

I hatched out some Ameraucana chicks Saturday under a broody hen. I brought them in to a brooder Sunday morning, everyone was happy, eating/drinking/pooping. Yesterday afternoon, I noticed one of the chicks was breathing heavily and very lethargic. I have been making sure I get this chick to...

Welsh Harlequin Ducklings: Sex by Bill

So most of them didn't have distinctive differences between them after they hatched? I found that the Holderread ones seemed much easier to guess at then my Holderread/Sand Hill hatch (I was questioning it from the beginning). Good luck on finding your drakes homes too - I keep getting interest...
