    Can this marriage be saved?

So are you asking so you can get all these people to tell your husband to do it your way ? I am asking because the man lets you have chickens....let him have the watered wherever he wants to have it. Does it really matter? Seems like you should side with him unless he said. What does that...

Breed Identity help! Blue Jersey Giant? Blue Wyandotte? Sapphire Gem?

Sorry, I am not seeing a rose comb on any of them. Oh yes, I see it now, and the one straight on face shot.

More importantly can you have a rooster? Not sure, but comb and waddles look a little red. Could be a "he". Can you spread he tail feathers out?

    What does purebred mean

Wow, I learned a lot from reading this! So, thank you for posting. Also, I am not sure how this works, but Murry McMurry Hatchery offers some sort of paper when you buy chicks from them. I noticed after I got mine. Going from memory, it said something like if you plan on showing, we can...

How do you identify your chickens?

See the girls in the pic? I can tell them all apart. :) mostly comb. They all developed different combs, but at first I named them and based on size I could pretty much tell them apart. And they Amelia was always the boss, so could tell that way.

First night out of the brooder

The pics are wonderful!! Love the feeders, I am setting up to make some myself and looking at some possibilities. I loose sleep the first night as well, unless I am sure it will be warm enough out. So I know how you feel.

Anyone keeping chickens secret from a HomeOwners Association?

Yes, I didn't mean to imply that the rules didn't apply, I was just wondering about HOA in a non-tract home situation. The original intent of allow them to make rules for areas was for close proximity. If you aren't in close then why was it formed. There could be rules for non- compliance as...

Anyone keeping chickens secret from a HomeOwners Association?

Bring eggs to the neighbors as soon as they start laying. Frankly, you won't be able to hide them they are noisy. I am absolutely against HOAs saying anything isn't allowed that is allowed by law. Change the rules, is the only advice I can give. Get a petition going that allows for rule...

    Fox spotted

Cheap chicken wire and hot wire fence. I have seen this work. Seems to me that can save month on the fencing material and buy a hot wire electric fence and come out ahead. I think this is what I will do when we get to a large property. Love people that share their ideas.

    Fox spotted

I am finding electric fences that people have seem to be a good deterrent to climbing devils. I would put one in if we lived out in the country. That bottom and top line stops digging and climbing. Quite amazing how it keeps things out of peoples yards. I look at some set ups and think that’s...

    Falcon

It’s wasnt either of those. It was a Peregrine falcon. That’s what it was. And still is! I will try to snap a picture. It was not a medium sized bird. I was very surprised it was even attempting to draw down on a chicken. I mean a chick I could see. But they are 12 weeks old. They’re pretty...

    Falcon

Thank you everyone for your input and help. He has been next door eating from the jays nests and after the squirrels. So I’m hoping he realizes there is plenty of other easy prey and doesn’t try the chickens again. I have to say they are very much aware of everything flying above them now...

    Falcon

As I said he won’t take off with one. But he can take one down like he did in the yard across the street and eat it while alive. And he didn’t care that there were multiple people standing within 10 feet and watching.
