Chicks not roosting in coop at night

I have babies that are a couple of weeks older, and they sleep outside in a corner pretty much every night. They stay in a group and keep each other warm. Our nights get down into the upper 30s. I’ve not had any issues with it.

    Fused toes

Thanks, I contacted the egg supplier and let them know. They have not seen it before, so I will see how he does. Interestingly, he tries to roost and is moving fairly well. I am a softy and will probably hold on to him out of curiosity. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

    Fused toes

I hatched out a dozen black copper maran chicks this past weekend. One of them really struggled getting out of the shell. When he finally got out, he was covered in the membrane and dried fluids from his egg. He could not get onto his feet, and I figured he would die. Two were in similar shape...

    Spooky Broody!

Out of curiosity, why would you remove the babies from their momma? She will instinctively brood, and protect those little ones, and do it 24/7. I would let her be the momma she is showing you she can be.

    Very round goat bellies

I was raised around goats, and love them. At one time we had 23 milking goats giving about five gallons after feeding babies etc. I don't have them now, as my wife is not keen on drinking the milk, although it is a shame. Also, I don't know if I have the patience to keep my pasture area goat...

Filling their tummies while food is abundant. Normal goat behavior. Good looking goats, by the way.

    Pressurized line for nipple waterers

I have been looking at setting up a nipple watering system for my girls. I have a pressurized line that runs about twenty five feet away, and would take little effort to run a shallow trench into their run, and set up a nipple watering system for them. My question is this: Does anyone know if...

    First brooder and coop builds.

Very nice! I really like your double brooder design. I might have to borrow some of your ideas from this one. I really like the auto watering system too. Thanks so much for sharing these pics!

Received tracking info for my first chicks!

It's like getting to day 21 and waiting for the first of your eggs to pip. I just about can't plan anything else on that day, as I am tied up at the incubator all day long!

    Hatching shipped eggs

I've never hatched goose eggs, but have hatched chicken eggs several times. With chicken eggs, let them sit for at least twelve hours at room temperature, to settle before you begin the incubation. I would imagine that goose eggs would be the same. Then be sure to follow the temperature settings...

    Black Copper Maran coloring

I picked them up on eBay. it was two batches of fourteen eggs each. One was from Louisiana, the other from Texas, if I remember correctly.

Guess I got my right of passage as a chicken owner :(

I have a dog that roams into the run with me, and it completely leaves the hens alone. Usually, my experience is that neighborhood dogs are more of an issue than one that is raised around your birds. However, don't count on it for protection, unless it will be confined in the area of the chickens.

    Idaho?

Burley. I am trying to establish a small flock of Black Copper Marans. I am loving being able to hatch my babies out in my sixth grade science classroom. The kids love to see the process. I live to see them light up as they learn new things.
