This is so true!!! I let my flock of silkies out of their covered pens to eat grass and scratch in our pasture. I sit with them because of the hawks we have in our area. When I want them to go back into their pens, I keep repeating "Time to go up!" and clap my hands and they all run back...

Sorry, I do not have anymore left. I have not been on my computer in about a week so did not see your message. When I have some more babies I will submit another post. Have a good day. Leslie Martin

    Texas Silkies!

It is so hot now. We are having 99-105 degree temps here in Texas. I would really rather not take the chance of the babies dying. :) Sorry Leslie Martin

Chicks taken by snake. What to do with Momma?

First, build a snake proof cage a hen can safely raise her babies. Have lost many babies to stinking snakes. Use the small size hardware cloth. A medium or large animal carrier also is good. Tractor supply has some that are a little less expensive. If u leave her another 3 weeks on eggs make...

    baby silkie cannot walk

I just hatched 12 silkies today and the last 2 have problems. One chick just sits back on its butt with its legs out front and wobbles from side to side and cheeps almost constantly. I have tried standing it up correctly, but it just sits back down again. It's legs are not splayed. Can this...

    The American Paint Silkie

Thanks to all that replied for a paint silkie roo. I found one in Louisiana which is about 40 minutes away from me so I did not have to drive very far. Now I have to get him a few more black silkie hens. My lone black hen will probably run away if I don't!

    The American Paint Silkie

Same as Bethbug but I'm in Texas. Does anyone in or near Texas have a paint roo they would like to rehome?? Less shipping stress for the bird. I have tried shipped paint eggs, twice, and only got 1 baby---a little white roo with a yellow beak! LOL Thanks

    The American Paint Silkie

Thanks for the information--will do that. I am trying to get my paint project started, but not having much luck so far. After only 1 egg hatched from the ones I bought, I prepaid for 6 paint chicks from the same breeder. But have not gotten them yet. Waiting... Luv your paint babies...

    The American Paint Silkie

This was a breeder's auction. I checked out their website before bidding. Will this chick carry a paint gene? If so I could put it in with other paints couldn't I. The chick has blue skin, 5 toes, and silkie feathering--just a yellow beak.

    The American Paint Silkie

I have a 'paint' question. I bought some paint eggs off ebay but only one hatched. It is about 2 weeks old and does not have any spots yet--and it has a very light beak, most cream colored. Do paint chicks hatch out with spots or do they develop as they get older? Never had any before...

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

Thanks Aschenfire for the genetics information. I tell you, color genetics in silkies is so exciting but also can be confusing. Sometimes you never know what you will hatch! My cuckoo roo is a beautiful sky blue or 'lavender blue' cuckoo from Canyon Critters. He has had some beautiful...

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

Lori--again thank you for helping me. So appreciate your taking the time to post my question in the american paint thread--I did see it a while ago. Glad to have an answer to what she is but now I have to ask another question---How did I get a splash from a white hen and either a cuckoo or...

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

I tried to post in the American Paint thread and could not get the pictures to upload or download or whatever you call it. I am just not very computer literate. Can do the normal stuff but that's about it. Oh well---so disappointed as I was checking my computer several times a day to see...

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

Oh wow! Thanks for the big pics! I'm so impressed--just don't know that much about computers--my age is showing! Grateful for the info on the cuckoo breeding. I have 2 beautiful sky blue cuckoo hens in this bunch of babies --I will put them in my white silkie pen with my big roo. Have a...

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

Found Them!! He put the other pictures of the chick in my album. He is a good boy! So I guess your friend could click on my info and look at them and see if she can make a determination from them. Leslie

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

Thanks so much for finding out the information for me! I know so little about the paint variation. I had so much trouble trying to get pics downloaded to this site. Called my son and he was only able to get only one downloaded and no more. So frustrating! I have other pics of the...

Thanks, I appreciate your help. Still do not know all the silkie color variations. Would be so excited if it was a paint baby but love the splashes too.

Is this chicken a splash or a paint?

This chick hatched from a white silkie . It hatched out totally white but after several weeks 2 black spots appeared on its back and this is what it looks like now. I have the white silkie mom in a pen with a sky blue cuckoo silkie roo and was hoping for a white baby with cuckoo barring but...
