I have thought about how i got here with more than 50 ducks and plans on many many more....
for us ducks = food/money/learning/sustainable agribusiness>> we are gonna make duck egg quiche and sell them all over Chile and the world!!!
our plan is...
We now have 10 adults, 6 ONE-month old ducklings and 12 new ducklings born yesterday>>>
so in 9 months we went from 12 to 27>> the plan is to increase the flock to 200 or so in the next year.
@YodaBat texted me today while I was in town.. our dog got into the duck house and ate 3 eggs that Goldie was sitting on....My heart sank- she is only a week away from hatching! Damn! so much success and now this! and MY fault- @YodaBat told me to better secure that door-
Damn it! 3 potential...
Okay I noticed that Goldie, our most active female, had a prolapsed cloaca. I had to gently push it back in place and gave her a warm water rinse- We separated her and it got better fast-2 days..
We have collected all of our eggs until now- we were going to buy an incubator, but we couldn't...
We are still getting only 4 eggs from 5 girls. We got 5/day for 3 days and then 4 daily for the last 10 days-?
The average weight is 68 grams- today we got a 78 gram egg!
we are eating most of them and giving some to friends and some to future clients.
Our town:
Most of you know our story/timeline....
1 week after they started laying we were getting 5 eggs per day (all 5 girls laying) now in the past 3 days only 4 eggs-
We use hay mixed with wood shavings- the hay lasted for 5 months because we turned it over everyday. the used hay goes into the run then into the garden.
I was looking at pics of our flock- I did not realize the head color change was so dramatic- look at these 2 pics- only 3 months apart- all thee black headed ducks are male- so was their Runner dad...mmmmmmmm
??
After adding 17 hours light in the duck house we are getting 3 eggs daily- Remember we have 5 girls and 6 boys- around 6.5 months old now
these eggs are so good and averaging 65 grams each-
we have no problems with so many drakes- lots of mating and th boys are not as clumsy as they first were-...
These are the parents.
These are the 6 drakes an 5 females after 4 months.
So when you bred a male Runner (above ) with a female KC can the offspring be different breeds? .....like he ls from Metzer farms??
