I breed Bielefelders and those are all definitely pullets. Some of my pullets feather in redder than others. I even have one out there now that is more buff on her chest than red.

I had a Biel hen go broody so I gave her some 2 day old chicks. Probably the best mother I've had in a while....... and I have Silkies.

I've had several pullets of this type coloring hatch from my small flock this year. I am selling them instead of keeping for my breeding program since the coloring is undesirable.

I've got eggs in the bator now. Started 2/10. Not sure on the dates of the hatchalong.

Yes, my Silkie roos crow more than my larger breed roosters. It's seems louder to me but I think it's because it's more shrill. The big boys have deeper tones. 😃

I started Bielefelder, Copper Marans and Olive Eggers eggs in the bator yesterday. First Biel hatch and I'm really excited!!!!

I'm also looking for WTB eggs.......hard to find.

I'll check on the feed. To be honest I'm very suspicious of a deficiency, although I'm sure she feeds a high quality feed. She's very mindful of her animals nutrition/health which is why this is so distressing to her. I know they get kale, chard and other veggies for treats sometimes.

They free range when the weather isn't super yucky. Sometimes they stay in due to predictor threats but I believe they free range a lot.

They have about a 12x12 stall. She had one that was picking at the others but she has her separated. That would explain the barr spots but the weird feather texture??? That's what has us the most stumped. I wondered if it was a nutrient deficiency.

I'll ask her about the safeguard and I'll mention trying some ivermectin. Thank you!

I hatched these birds from my own flock and kept some of their siblings and none look even remotely like these. I'm thinking they must have mites. I just don't really know. I've never dealt with them.

I use a large plastic storage tote with shavings in the bottom. (I cover with paper towels the first couple days and spread feed over it so the chicks have food in their faces constantly to encourage them to eat). The plastic makes it a breeze to clean/sanitize for later hatches.
