    Hen has dodgy foot

Hi all, I noticed one of our silkie hens (they are about 3-4 years old) started to limp quite badly, i noticed her foot has gone really crusty, no wound or bleeding or open sores but looks like she cant move her toes properly. I checked her other foot and it looks normal as well as all the...

    Breeding technique and Organising......

We only have the one rooster, so if I see him breed a hen that I want to have eggs from, I can just seperate her and leave her in her own area for what would end up a few months, enough time to lay a clutch and hatch them?

    Breeding technique and Organising......

Hi all, A few months ago we had our first successful hatching in our flock of silkies, Im not really pushing hard for success and just letting the hens do what they want, we hatched every egg and had 15 chicks, unfortunately I learn a harsh lesson is how these little ones can be wee Hodini's...

Yeah she is with 4 other hens and the rooster. We are not overly fussed about the breeding but we would like to increase the flock was trying to take the approach of nature would do its thing. Is it 1000% the hen and chicks need to be isolated? Ive picked up hens from breeders before and they...

Topic of the Week - Broody vs Incubator

Im yet to get into breeding some one tell me if my plan is doomed to fail, but I have a flock of silkies that go broody all the time and sometimes we break em out of it and sometimes not. I plan on using the silkies to rear the eventual RIR flock we plan to have for eggs and meat. So we will let...

    Broody Silkie…… do i care?

Hey guys, One of my silkie hens has gone broody. I searched around and i know there are methods to stop it. But my question is do i need to? Im not fussed about their egg production. I tip her off the nest once a day to check for eggs and take them if they are there. Aside from that do i have...
