Ok, so finding INFO more than the basic on MW is FREAKING HARD!
I researched the breed but it is all the same info. I knew this is breed I wanted for backyard city folk.
They are pets, not food. At this point.
Got my 2 poults in February. They were 8 weeks at the time.
Born approx. Jan. 1 then...
Broody Muscovy.
Went and bought 6 fertilized Muscovy eggs from a local farmer.
She kicked out 3 by end of Week 2.
3 left.
Yesterday was day 35.
She hatched 1 duckling on Sat. morning. We pulled it to put in brooder as our flock is not baby-safe.
2 eggs left.
I checked this morning and nothing...
So we gave our broody Muscovy 6 fertile Muscovy eggs to sit on(we bought them from a local farmer). They are due to hatch on April 12 or so.
She has 3 left. She has kicked the others out of the nest and they disappeared.
This is our 2nd time doing this. Usually we just buy chicks/ducklings or...
Ok, we have adopted a house pigeon.
She is 4, was raised by previous human parents from a naked baby after she was kicked off roof of apartment complex while spraying for moss. She is a standard pigeon, like the kind you see flying under overpasses or walking around the parking lots.
She is...
Any info on this breed would be GREAT!
We want to try turkeys. We live in the city. We have chickens and ducks and quail on a XL double lot.
This turkey seems to fit and be able to do fine.
We want a hen, no toms.
Sound/noise level from a hen?
I have read that they should not be kept with...
So, we have had Coturnix Quail for 10 months. Plan was to get them as chicks, cull any males for freezer and eat and sell eggs.
Well, we still have all 19 of them. Hubby wants to bring in new ones. I said we have fertile eggs, why not incubate... then a GREAT sale at the feed store.... bing...
Hubby saw ad on CL.
These 2 ducks were in deplorable conditions.
We went to adopt them and save their butts.
We have Muscovies at home and a Cayuga in the past.
When we got there, they were in deplorable conditions. I won't even describe here because I am so angry.
They are supposed to be 2 mo...
We had the 6 free eggs we got from the EE's we bought that had been with a roo prior to purchase.
We got those by taking 2 days of laid eggs and giving them to our broody duck.
She patiently sat on them for 22 days. We lost 1 egg at day 8/9. Not sure what happened.
5 left.
Thursday was day 21...
Ok, this is our 1st time for doing this.
We put 6 fertilized or we hope fertilized eggs under our broody duck.
1 got broke, so we have 5 left.
They were laid on 19th and 20th of July, which means day 21 is tomorrow, Aug. 8 for 2 of them and Friday, Aug. 9 for the other 3.
They are 1/2 EE eggs...
Ok, we have a broody Muscovy duck hen.
We picked up 3 laying EE's to add to our flock. When we got them, they had been living with a roo.
Hey, FREE fertilized eggs that we can give to the broody duck to hatch.
That was 1 week ago.
We candled eggs yesterday and deep veining in all 6.
2 weeks...
We are in Portland, OR. and are wanting to add a couple of Lav. Orph's to our flock this year.
Our friend is scheduled to raise them for us along with his chicks until they are able to join our big girls....and he is expecting his chicks at the end of February.
So...that gives me a little time...
Ok, we have 3 Muscovies and 1 Cayuga.
George the Cayuga shows ALL signs of being a boy....curly tail, etc. despite that we sexed him a girl at 2 weeks old but has spent a lot of time in the house observing the 3 Muscovies and All the chickens nesting and laying eggs.
He/She is almost 5 months...
Well.... despite that we sexed George at 2-3 weeks old and determined it was a she. YEAH!
Now that George is almost 17 weeks old, we think that his name fits the sex.
The past 2 weeks, despite that he was basically full size...... has started to get 2 curls on his tail.
I just got done checking...
Ok, we have had chickens for 3 yrs.
We got the Muscovies back in February(I think) and I posted then asking many questions!
We now have those 3 Muscovy hens and George the Cayuga duck(he is only 12 weeks but is the Paul Bunyan of ducks!LOL)
They happily share a HUGE pen with their chicken...
Anyone know what the percentage is that the Americana pullet from the feed store is actually a rooster?
We bought a new Americana chick and a Cayuga duckling 2.5 weeks ago from Coastal Farm and Garden here in Portland.
George the duck is my spoiled brat and Spirit the chick is hubbys.
We saw...
Ok, how soon on a Cayuga duckling can you tell whether it is a drake or a hen?
I notice on the pics that the full grown males are LOTS greener than the females who look to be more black. Does this appear as they mature or on their first feathers?
Any way to tell on the ducklings? I want to be...
Does anyone have a duck that lives in the house like a dog or cat and is spoiled rotten?
I love the Muscovy girls but they have been raised outside since hatching.
Now, I have George the Cayuga duckling and I would LOVE to make him a house duck and take him with me everywhere....... get him a...
Stopped at Coastal Farm and Garden yesterday to get feed and bedding.
They had chicks and ducklings out.
Awwwwww
There in the "assorted ducks" bin was the cutest all black duckling.
His feet and legs were solid deep black. His down was dark solid black, no markings or stripes...black only...
Ok, we rescued a couple of drake ducks from a co-worker about a month ago and while their advice is not something I would take because of their lack of care towards their chickens(whole other story we dont need to get into!) but she made a comment that someone had told her and it got Hubby and I...
We have had chickens for 3 yrs and we now have ducks.
I have always wanted a goose and I see many people on the board in the duck section that have a goose or 2.
So, thought I would pop in and see what people say.
We have a LARGE city lot and have 14 chickens and 3 ducks with the idea to add 3...
