From "Oh Girl!" TO "Oh BOY" It's great to see how these little loves can change.

My boys that are just around a year old will generally have spurs that are about 1/4 inch. At 2 years old they can be significantly larger if they aren't trimmed.

In my opinion, they appear to be breeder quality non-bearded silkies. The pics wont allow to see other details that would indicate quality. Check to see if your cockbird has spurs, it may be helpful as far as age.

Thanks! She is black, the lighting is deceiving. A real cutie. :)

I'm loving this little pullet, too back she has leakage in her hackles. I'm not sure if I can part with her though.

Yes, I've seen that on more than one occasion. Last year, I had one judge act very annoyed with me for asking him to review my bird and the one next to it that won (I came in second). He was helpful, but I could tell he wasn't happy with me. The way that I feel, if you are here to judge...

This is all very good information. I haven't seen a single judge take a bird out into the sun to get a better look at color. A breeder/show friend of mine, he goes to Nationals and all the shows around the are., He has seen a lot of birds and has a lot of great experience, like many of you...

I do have a question though about Icarus. I got a little beat up over his color. The judge felt that he was dark for a blue. He looks like a completely different bird in the sunlight vs. barn lighting. Is he too dark? Same bird, different lighting. Comments are greatly appreciated.

Our blue cockerel, Icarus, came in 1st in his class. Our little splash pullet, Olive, came in 2nd. (The judge said that he would like her wings to develop a little more.) She is young, 5 months or so, I am looking forward to the shows in the next few months to see how she develops and how she...

I do breed and she is one of mine. Thanks to several very generous breeders though, for helping me get off to a good start.

We entered out little splash pullet into the Altamont Fair and we are hoping to enter her into a few upcoming shows here in the area. She is quite the little show off. We are hoping that she does well!

That is Miss Oakley and she is a gorgeous splash. I am currently breeding her with an amazing splash cockbird and I cannot wait to see the results from these two birds. :) Thanks for the compliment.

I wasn't really planning on keeping her, but I have sold birds like this only to see pics of them several months later, with full on splash markings! I am going to hold onto her and closely watch any changes. I am really interested to see what she'll look like after a molt.

Can you provide a pic of the side view? It is very tough to give a proper critique from this angle.

Thanks so much Sonoran! I am having a great time with the splash and I am learning to be more patient with them. While I don't think that she will be strongly marked, they are coming.... here is the sister of the previous splash pictured. Also 4 months.

I have another splash that is the same age as the other pullet, they are sisters, and the splash markings are starting to come. She looks self blue at the moment, but you can see the markings in her wings and just starting in her hackle feathers. Its very interesting. I'll have to grab a pic.

It's such a cute name! My daughter (4yrs) picked it out. I thought it was quite good. :) I also prefer stronger "splash" markings. It will be interesting how she develops and if those markings intensify.
