Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I am not sure what the first and 4th one are but the 2nd and 3rd look like they are some Barnevelder hybrids or project birds. Barnevelders are supposed to have double lacing.

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

If you haven't found anyone, I ran into this auction on rarebreedauction that is ending tomorrow. There are no reviews/feedback of the quality so you may want to take a close look at the pics and ask an expert as well before buying...

I take it that you have both standard laced silver and blue laced silver Barnies. Are they still projects or are you almost there. Do you mind sharing pictures?

I think I have seen her day old chicks auction on rarebreedauctions as well. Her flock looked good and I believe is from The Fancy Chick line.

I got it loud and clear now! As I mentioned, novice to genetics so was just dreaming if that was possible, apparently not.

Thats what I figured that the Chocolate will just replace black or blue and not the Mahogany so it is a non-starter. However, in case of Silver laced Barnevelders, silver was able to replace Mahagony. Silver obviously works different than chocolate, but still wondering how it came about and is...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

@nicalandia , while reviewing our conversation I noticed that: a) Chocolate Orpington rooster (although suggested by me) is not a good option (thanks @Happy Chooks ) because of the white/pink Orpington feet which are dominant and could be hard to eliminate. b) When looking for a Chocolate...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I am posting this here from another forum because it belongs here. However, please excuse me since I am not a genetics expert and some of the questions I may ask might be very simple and basic which I should know already. This posting restarts the conversation for anyone else that might be...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I can recommend the two I know and where I got my hatching eggs from. tls_ranch and happy chooks. They are super busy folks so sometimes it takes a little longer to get a reply but send them a PM. I am pretty sure there are others out there.

Oh, I did not realize you were in Canada. She is in California so that will be a no go. No wonder they are charging so much for fertilized eggs over there!

Have you checked with @tls_ranch She has pics of her flock on this thread and they are gorgeous. You will find their pricing to be very good as well compared to fertilized egg pricing you are getting.

Here are my 2 cents: Dark Brahmas- Very friendly large good looking birds, however lay a small egg compared to their size and thus eat a lot of feed. If you are going to use them for meat as well, then they are economical otherwise not. RIR- Very friendly dual purpose breed, however not so...

It all depends on the temperament of the rooster, so 5 hens for 1 rooster is not a bad ratio, however if the rooster is very aggressive, the hens may lose some feathers from their back. P.S. Barney's are way prettier than Marans but as they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder!"

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I think you have made a great choice with Barnevelders. I have many different breeds in my flock and not only that my Barnevelder hen is the prettiest and most graceful but also her egg is dark and good sized. Here are the breeds I have and their egg colors and average weights: Red Star- dark...
