I love both those pics. Hope your little guy doesn't get too dark! I have a very sweet partridge rock hen who hops the fence and free ranges every day. She's the runt of my flock. My little silver laced bantam cochin cockerel is starting to follow her around when I let him out to patrol around...
Here are a couple shots of my lighter colored calicos:
Mabel (super sweet)
Pearl (the biter)
This one is slowly getting more and more buff in... I wonder what she'll look like next year.
And here's the blue calico
I'm thinking I might put her in with the calico girls above when it's time for...
Thanks for all your replies :) It's pretty awesome to be needing cockerels and not trying to find homes for them instead! I have 6 pullets now so I'll probably be getting 2 cockerels. I think I'll split my pullets into MF and calico pens. I'd like to be part of the effort to work on and get MF...
Well I feel a little stupid, but very happy! After looking at them some more this week it's obvious that they're pullets, and I will be needing a cockerel to go with them. I'm going to post locally but I'd also like to ask any of you that have a nice calico or mille cockerel to PM me to talk...
I was sitting outside with my four calicos today and it dawned on me that I haven't heard any of them crow or even attempt to crow and their combs have not budged one bit in growth. I assumed all four were cockerels because their combs turned pink-ish at around 3-4 weeks old, but at almost 10...
Oh Sheila I'm so sorry... how terrible. I'd give you one of mine if you lived closer. These four calico cockerels I have are the sweetest chickens I've ever owned, and I've had some really sweet ones. Hopefully you get a look-alike to pop out of one of his eggs and fill the role of school...
I put a log in my grow out pen so I could go in there and sit down... They hop up on my legs and on my shoulders too and I just eat it up! Glad I'm not alone
Thanks guys... I got lucky with pretty chicks out of my eggs, even if all four that hatched are cockerels :P and it seems like their coloring changes a little bit every day. I love it.
They are so beautiful! Love the pair in the first picture. Did you hatch them from eggs from someone on BYC? All four of my calicos are boys (of course) but they're so sweet. I'll be taking some pictures of them this weekend. They're 2 months.
I've never seen blue calico before, but I believe one of my pullets might fit the bill. She is gorgeous to me no matter what color she is though! Luckypickens has been hatching out of her blue calico pen but I haven't seen any updates on her results.
Here are some pics of my pullet:
lots of...
I loved reading through this thread and seeing all the great pictures! I hatched some blue calico project eggs (among other colors) from luckypickens last month and I've got more of her calico eggs in the incubator right now with one more blue calico. The calicos are my favority variety and I'd...
