Their mom(s) are my full mallard sisters and I suspect their father was the mallardxrunner mix I used to have. They're very pretty. I hope we can get the duck pool set up soon cuz I know how much young ducks just love water. We haven't gotten it set up again since we moved. Been too busy...
@NathanZee I don't know if you remember, but I think you were right when you suggested my mixed mallard ducklings could be sex linked about a month or so ago. I have been observing the sounds each one makes and I noticed the three golds are all starting to make girls sounds and the three silvers...
@NathanZee probably. They are 1/2 mallard for sure, and if the father is who I suspect, then the ducklings are 3/4 mallard and 1/4 fawn/white runner I THINK. It will never be 100% certain that it was a runner who was the mother of the father since I have such a mixed flock, but judging by the...
Final count is seven babies. Three silver, three goldens and one black. It kills me that I can't cuddle them but their moms are doing a great job so far :)
I just saw another one, it looked mostly yellow with a very faint mallard pattern. Much lighter colored than the silver one. Oh they're so cute! It's so exciting!
They're most likely cross breeds. They look silver, not black, so definitely not pure mallard. I have one pure mallard drake, but the father could also be a welsh harlequin or a mallard/runner cross. The runner Cross always hangs out with those two girls so he's most likely the sire.
I have...
Thanks. I marked the 11 as day 1, so we should be seeing ducklings around June 7 or 8. Which is right around the time we move. She couldn't have picked a worse time lol
Gas and electric companies retain the right to enter your property and inspect their meters at any given time. Even though the meters are in private yards, they are still property of the company, and you cannot prevent them from coming and checking on them. They need to maintain their equipment...
I have my first ever broody mama duck :) we couldnt find her the other day and thought maybe a predator got her. But with a little searching, we found her behind the pool. We had it blocked off, but she got past the wood and brick barrier and dragged straw all the way back there. She started...
I don't think it's a matter of whether he can fertilize, so much as it is if he wants to. I don't think he will somehow become sterile in his eclipse plumage, but his, ahem, manly urges may be lacking somewhat. My two cents anyway ;)
Okay, thanks. I have mallards, so I'm pretty familiar with them except for their egg laying. I'm wondering how prolific they are for laying, if they only lay for a couple months, or if they will keep laying an egg every day like my other domestic ducks. I can't wait to see their eggs.
My mallard girls are approaching 8 months old, and I expect they will start laying in the spring. Are mallards seasonal layers? If I remove the egg every day, will they keep laying and egg a day? Just curious.
I can't wait for my mallard girls to start laying. They are six months old, but I imagine they won't start until it gets warmer and daylight gets longer. I hope they hurry. I NEED cute green eggs! Lol
I imagine that if my boys had turned out to be girls, they would look much like Mr. Duckie in his adolescent plumage, which is just gorgeous. But yours may look completely different, especially since there are tons of colora of runners you could mix them with. That's the beauty of mutt ducks. So...
