Photos didn't work but you can kind of see what I mean on this video:
FYI posted it here for general help, so I don't spam this thread with my questions: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/help-with-assisting-twin-hatch-muscovi.1596613/
But I'll keep this group updated with further...
Sorry that you ended up with a lonely chick!
Hope the hen will adopt it :)
I am feeling a bit nerve wrecked right now.
Incubator says 2 days left on my duck eggs, which really means 4 more days until day 35 (I set it to less so that the turner would stop 4 days before hatch)
One looks fine...
So many cute babies!
My 3 duck eggs are still ok, it's starting to be really hard to see anything in there but pretty sure there was some movement in all 3 eggs still. I should have written down which one might be twins because I can't tell anymore for sure. Maybe it was just one after all, but...
Yeah, it sounds like one of the few cases where chances of surviving "natural birth" are so low it might be worth the risk to assist, even a bit early?
You couldn't have known hatching started early so it can't be helped but it might be some comfort to know that if I have twins and they make...
Oh no, I was hoping no one would say that :hmm :D
That’s what I was wondering too but I’ve never had/seen/candled twins before so I’m still hoping it’s just weird positioning? If they are twins, I think I’ll risk an assisted hatch, assuming they make it that far…
Thanks for posting pics of the twins!
Lovely to see all the new hatches.
One of my duck eggs was still clear after 10 days, so i threw it out. Just candled the three other ones and they look pretty lively in there. Hopefully they all make it!
What a pretty baby!
I did a quick candle while I was turning the eggs manually earlier, 3 are definitely developing. The one with the saddled air cell and odd streaks still looks clear but unless it start to smell I'll give it 10 days before throwing it out.
Looks reasonable to me, but someone more experienced should probably confirm!
Duck eggs are in the incubator, fingers crossed that they’re fertile. I’m keeping an eye on the turner too because they’re so big that I think at least one of them slides instead of rolling.
Wow the twins look so cool, I hope somehow they make it through hatching!
I ended up getting 4 muscovy eggs. One seems different from the other three. The aircell is a bit larger and off to the side a bit, and it has greyish streaks towards the pointy end. Not sure if that means anything since...
Fingers crossed!
I've kept the incubator in my office to supervise even if I do work (I work from home). Bonus entertainment for colleagues if they zip behind me during a zoom meeting I guess  I've tried to time them to hatch on the week end before and all my chicks were born...
Was lurking in here too, but sounds like I may join in.
I'm getting a few Muscovy eggs from a friend's flock tomorrow - not sure how many yet but I'm going to incubate them and see what happens - It'll be my first ducks. I expect a bumpier ride this time: I read Muscovy are harder to hatch with...
