Since the topic of flying came up, I have a question. I want to fence in our backyard with 5 ft fencing mostly to keep any dogs out so that my chickens can free range comfortably but I also don't want my chickens bothering neighbors so I thought about clipping a wing with a five foot fence. Do...

By the way, this evening Doosya was walking around after all the other chickens went up to the roost, I think she was looking for her egg that Mama had "stolen".

ROFL Amy, within five minutes of finding that egg, I had accomplished telling my best friend, texting my husband with a picture, emailing my mother in law, posting on Facebook and calling Dad in WV(of course he was gone but he called me back after seeing I had called twice.) ROFL, now hows that...

Wow they would surely be defenseless out in the woods alone, wouldn't last anytime. Shame on them for being horrible mothers!!! I hope you find them.

Thanks tnchickenut, yes it all helps, that makes sense about the Australorp or mostly Australorp LOL. As for the roo, he was around another roo, a BA until around the middle of December. The BA had been crowing for quite a while and he was boss and would have most likely been the better roo as...

I know I don't get on much and usually when I do I have questions so I hope ya'll don't mind too very much. I just noticed that one of the two 25 week old black aussies MollyB the last 2 pictures down seems to have a pea comb (or at least the type of comb that looks squiggly and not standing...

Thanks for the response. It's funny you said that about you getting eggs soon after, this particular pullet is the one that seems the most mature and the one I have predicted will lay first. Her comb is very red and bigger than the other BA pullet. The EE pullets I have aren't red yet. I hope...

At what age do cockerals become roosters and start mating? I had 2 cockerals but I parted with the BA and kept the one I like the most, an EE. He is 23 weeks old and seems rough (well, what I call rough) with one of my pullets and I know that this stuff is natural but as much as I like him I...

A fun picture of my crew, 2 BA pullets, 4 EE pullets and 1 EE cockeral. Yeah, I named most of them after food. Macaroni and Velvetta were named by my 6 year old grandson. LOL I have no clue how old Starr, Velvetta and Macaroni are, I was told they are under a year old but they are not laying...

Thanks bairo and tennesseeckn, that's the reason I love this board, there's always someone to help me when I'm not sure what direction to take. To be honest, I hadn't given them scratch at all, so shew, I feel bad, I always read where there is not really any nutritional value in it so I guess...

Hey everyone, gee, I have been gone for a while, life is so busy. Been dealing with a issue with one of my pullets but I think it is under control. She had something going on in her right eye, bubbles and swelling underneath. I sought out some help on here and now it is cleared up and the...

Thanks for the replies, we live a distance from them so I hoped to get some positive feedback. I think it is a little far to drive for a few hens (90 miles one way) so not sure I am up for it. May wait til spring for me. :-)
