Well that was super disappointing. Grew potatoes for the first time this year and it was a dismal failure. First lot I put in grew ok for a bit but died off pretty quickly and I got only 1-2 potatoes per plant. I planted a second batch a bit later right next to them. These grew better plants...

It's hard when water restrictions hit. We've been lucky the last few years and avoided them. Have you seen this. He has his verges at a weekender so is never there to water and this helps them survive without it.

Must be a very long winter when you can't grow anything! We are heading into autumn at the moment and I'm doing a bit of an experiment and have just planted some cold tolerant large cherry type tomatos. Will be interesting to see how they fare. We have been forecast to stay summer warm right...

Yeah it killed my cucumbers last year. I think it was because I planted them in the same bed as my zuchinnis which always end up with it and it just spread. Keeping zucchini away from everything and in a pot this year.

Ill give that a try. To add to my woes looks like the rust on my garlic has spread to my rhubarb too

I could be wrong but I don't think we have blight in Australia. At least I've never heard it mentioned here by anyone or on tv garden shows etc I've picked them off and binned but I've got the next planting ready to put in the garden but not sure if I should wait till this is treated first. I...

Does anyone know what this would be on my dwarf beans? I have had rust on my garlic in a nearby bed but this is only yellow, no sign of the orange rust spots.

I hope so! I took some cutting from what I'd cut off so hopefully they will all take too and I'll have some spares out of it.

I've got all my seedlings I started in late winter in at last! Most advanced my spring garden has ever been, was definatly worth using the cold frame to get a jump start on the season. On more frustrating news, decided for reasons unknown to take out my tomato side shoots with my clippers...

Tried those when we were in the states 10 years ago because of the movie :-). I have to say I don't get why you do it lol. Must have to grow up on them :-) I would be putting a lot of those on a sunny windowsill to ripen. Because of our fruit fly I had to pick mine last year at the slightest...

That will make life easier! Does the same go for capsicums do you know? (Sweet peppers?). I didn't get to eat a single one of those last year either due to the fruit fly (worst year I've ever had for fruit fly) and while the chickens loved my maggoty tomatoes so at least they weren't a total...

Thanks for all the info on the tomatoes! I'm not sure whether it's a hybrid or not as the packet doesn't say but some googling leads me to suspect not. I may end up having to hand pollinate these anyway eventually so I might wait till then and just save seed after that point. The info is...

I've just realised this is going to be a problem for me. I have a cherry tomato that I grew from a single seed that germinated from some came with a magazine about ten years ago. It's supposed to be cold tolerant so wanted to save seeds but I have heaps of other tomatoes growing with it so its...

My seed company advertises it needs seed savers. One of these days I plan to ring and find out what's involved.

Doesn't look like a bad harvest. I've got some growing in a pot that I planted really late in the season last year. It's just starting to put on new shoots again now as we are coming in to spring. Not really sure if I should dig around and see what I find or leave it to have a whole season...
