Who is all going to the Newcastle auction tomorrow night? We've decided to go another direction here at the farm as far as what breeds stay and what goes. So tomorrow we will be selling our entire Australorp flock, 9 hens and 1 roo. Also a bunch of chicks from them we hatched out earlier this...

Hi! I'm new here...saw and visited with lots of folks at Newcastle auction last Saturday and it was like a family reunion, had a blast. Thought I'd pop in here and just say hey to everyone else. Had a ton of messages from several of you...answered most...my apologies for not responding until...

Thanks! After this test hatch, I'll fill it up and shut down the 6 brinsea and foam bators that have been running non stop for several months now. Hope you can get all your cooling needs going. I've actually lost one hen and 4 older quail this last week, so I can feel for you. I put up a huge...

Thanks! Just answered the jar deal for Nanakat, they are heat sinks. The thermostat and heating element came from GQF, everything else was off the shelf at lowes or walmart. The glass up front is actually 1/4" plexiglass, it holds temps very well...only .5 degree variance between heat cycles. no...

Thanks for all the compliments, ya'all! MJ, My 4 yo helped a lot...and my DW did the stain and urethane finish...other than that I did it by myself. Probably why it took so long. Nanakat, the 12 pint jars have been "canned" to seal them. (a couple teaspoons of oxine to prevent cootie growth)...

Now that it's summer months, I feed 15% egg layer pellets manufactured by Big V. Winter months and high volume egg producing months I go to 20%...I personally like Big V feed several flavors for all my birds. I do cut my feed with scratch grains, but you don't need to. I do it to give them...

Different folks will say different things or have an "eye" for telling what they are at younger ages....ask people how many cockerels they have now too, when told they were pullets, lol. For me, at 12 weeks the cockerels start showing comb development and tails... Some sooth sayer will tell...

Here's a good medical link to poke weed http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002874.htm it will do more than clean you out... Scorpions in the house do stink...but you should leave them outside the house...used to kill every one I saw...then found out they eat brown recluse spiders...

My thoughts exactly! We have too many snakes around here...so far only lost 8 quail chicks though...been keeping the rest at bay. (My 6 shot might not be available right now...but the 20 gauge sawed-off does wonders for charming snakes!)
