Yes. It is safe to assume they are carriers and all your other bids will get sick and will become carriers. If they are not showing any symptoms and you plan to keep them (I advise against it) then you can introduce them at any time. Most people say to quarintine for 2-3 weeks but you...

URI can travel miles in the air. It can travel on your clothes and shoes. So if you have fed or watered the sick birds and didnt wash your hands or change you clothes, You could have exposed your others. If you are going to cull them, Wait to build the coop. To be safe I would bleach it...

I would say you made a huge mistake. If we are being blunt. Sorry. If he said they were carries, I would never have taken those birds. Now your whole flock is at risk. No matter how much you have invested in them, the second you introduce them to your new birds, Your new birds will get...
No. You cannot eat the eggs. You cannot eat them for at least 3-4 weeks after you STOP the medication. and I took it a step further in never wanting to eat their eggs again. I just dont trust it.

They have already been culled. It was hard. We began clean up over the weekend. Spent 3 hours scrubbing the inside of the coop with 50/50 bleach. The inside of the coop could pass for brand new. And once it was that clean, I disinfected all over again!!! Once it stops raining I will be...

Sorry for your loss. I'm in the same predicament as you, however I cannot bring myself to cull.
I was right there with you. What sealed the deal for me was necropsy from the state and advice from the state as well. Not to mention, I have 17 older chicks and I have to consider their...
I made the decision to cull the whole flock. The coop has ben bleached 3 times and the field dusted with lime. With 17 older chicks just waiting to go outside, I simply could not risk it. I was consumed with far too much worry.
Lab results are in and the birds have Mycoplasma Gallisepticum AND infectious bronchitis AND full or parasites/worms. I dont know what to do. The state vet seemed to imply that this is very common in poultry and the vet suggested Tylan or culling the whole flock but refused to give...
I will. They said they will have some results the same day (Monday) and then more advanced tests would need to be shipped out to another lab so those results could take a few days. Today when I was tossing some scratch grains and collecting eggs to toss, I noticed a lot of brids with nasal...
Ok. So I called the state vet and I found out that a Necropsy is FREE where I live. He was a very nice man and I also gave him all the info for the breeder I bought the chickens from. It was too late in the day today to take them to the lab so I will be taking them to the lab on Monday. They...
Ok one last thing.....Before I cull my birds when I dont even know if the all have anything because only 2 ever showed signs.....After I bleach out the coop I am going to put Dehydrated lime inside and in the grass area. How long before I introduce my new birds??? When will it be safe or will it...
Not to mention we dont even know what my birds had/had. Everyone is just assuming. Here is a website with different UR illness and almos tall have the same symptoms
http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/respiratory_disease.htm
Now I have all my birds from one flock. No new birds were introduced. All...

I am not sure that URI are so common. Since most commercial chicken houses give antibiotics are a regular bases I am not even sure that they have anything. I won't keep a bird that has had a respiratory infection since I can't be sure that they are not carries and since some do pass to...
If URI are sooooo common in poultry, I find it hard to magine that I shouldn't be able to keep my flock and add more. I mean, my husband and I were just thinking, How many chickens do you think we EAT that are sick? I mean in production poultry houses, They have thousands of birds in such a...

So if the respitatory illness never leaves, How will they effect their eggs for eating, Hatching and for butchering the birds down the road? Also, I never said my antibiotics were not working. I just started treatment yesterday.
My understanding is that the eggs are fine to eat, as is...
One last question......Very important...
What about introducing new birds? I have about 17 young birds in a large brooder we made out in the sunroom who were suppse to go out to the coop this week but I have postponed it. When is it safe to let them out? Will it ever be safe to let them out...
