I have a Cockrell to give away if any are interested. He is a Wellsummer /EE mix and very beautiful. He has been handled since a chick. Kind but cautious as a rooster should be.

So exciting! First time with letting my broody hen set. Gave her a dozen and we had 3 hatch out today. Looks like 2 Wellsummers but not sure about the third. Still hiding under mamma. I'm hoping its from one of my EE hens. We'll see if we get anymore!

I did the research and the company recommends 1tablespoon per chicken. Its working great. I have 3 year olds laying like spring chickens now. They have been on it since November.

Look at the other post on scratch ratios. I increase my hens protein during the winter months with Calf Manna and also give warm oatmeal with cayenne pepper in the mornings.I gave them a 4 month break while some were molting and just started lighting the coop. I turn the lighting back 15 minutes...

I use a bucket heater. It works great because it sits close to the bottom of the bucket and keeps the nipples from freezing. I did go out one morning to find them stiff, but just wiggled them a little and they came loose easily. Works great!

I think we have enough ventilation so that should be fine. We are adding an 8x16 covered run. I plan on laying down straw in the run, but want to put up some kind of wimd break. Thought about shade cloth, but not sure how that would hold up. Any ideas? And yes, I would possibly be interested in...

I will probably keep my favorites until they pass on their own. Ones that aren't as friendly I give away. I don't ask, and they don't tell...if you know what I mean. Just can bring myself to cull. Sounds like your girls will start laying soon. Post a picture of your first egg!

Yeah, I was thinking every other spring also, but I have some older hens who have stopped laying. So maybe I'll get a few. I had an EE who seemed to take forever to start laying, but once she did, she was my best layer. They should start anytime now. Are they squating for you? Or red combs? That...

Any of you Billings area peeps planning on new chicks this spring? Would like to order from a hatchery, but usually have to buy so many. Maybe a few of us could go in on an order? Let me know!

Started giving then ceyenne pepper with their morning mix and they are all laying better now. I've read that some people do that all winter to keep their hens laying. I only use it to get my girls going again after they have stopped laying for unknown reasons.

I grew my own mealworms for my gals. Its pretty easy, but takes several months. There are tutorials on you tube.

Yeah, my girls are slowing down a little on the laying. It was chilly here also, and rainy. Darn, don't have the roof on the run yet, poor babies.
