I toasted 2 slices of bread and made a peanut butter sandwich. Put it in the bird feeder that you put suet in. At first they thought I was trying to kill them (of course!!). After a little bit, one brave girl stepped up and tasted the sandwich and then it became all out war!!
I had made creamed rice for breakfast so I gave them the rest of it with some sorhgum molasses and BOSS mixed in. Had it heated up because I could actually see the poor girls shivering!!! Never got up to 20 degrees today and they were cold.
Sprouted BOSS again! They think I am a very good mommy! lol
Also, I sprout my BOSS in a tupperware container, soak for 24 hours, drain, and just keep the lid on tight. They've been growing great because the moisture stays in and sometimes I put the container on the heater vent for a few...
Well, this is PROBABLY not what the more experienced people on here would do but it worked for me. The only container that I could find that I thought would work was a Tupperware cereal holder, you know the kind with the snap-on lid and the little covered pouring hole. I filled it about 1/2...
My flock of nuts got sprouted BOSS today. It finally sprouted (actually sooner than I expected) so it was their afternoon treat and they were loving me!!!
I strung up some cabbage today also. I pretty much got the same looks!! As long as it was in my hands, it was ok. After hanging it up it was "Oh h*** NO!!!"
I started feeding my flock of nuts the fermented feed that is on another thread. They love it and gobble it down! (Yes, chickens not turkeys! lol) I am also sprouting some BOSS to give as treats when it gets ready. Until that time, they are just gonna get wild bird feed. I am trying so...
Leftover turkey and dressing. Out of the freezer into the microwave! Added some wild bird food to it and just threw everything into the pine shavings. They had to work for it because they are REALLY getting stir-crazy now. Third day in a row that it's too cold and snowy for them to go out...
Ronnie25, it's NEVER too late to have a good laugh and that's exactly what you will get when raising chickens. These goofy birds make me crack up laughing every day. They all really do some CRAZY stuff!!!! LOL
Today with 5" of snow on the ground, the flockanuts wouldn't go outside so I made them some rice and added kidney beans and some apple pie filling from the can. A 9"x9" Pyrex baking dish was FULL and the 12 girls and 1 roo got their bellies full 'cause this was in addition to their regular dry...
Here's an off-the-wall question: how do you know if your chickens are getting enough to eat? It seems like each time I give them a treat, they are starving to death! They get Layena and then free-range all day plus treats.
I don't know if it's good for them or not but I have given my flock catfish food floating pellets. They LOVE it so I hope it's ok. The bag is too heavy for me to move to see what's in it.
I cooked some ramen noodles (without the spice packet) 3 small jars of chicken & broth baby food, and a can of spinach. Mixed it all together and they loved it!!
