I posted that info from studies I've read, and from personal experience with both SLW & BLRWs. . Last year, I went through 2 roosters who were brothers, and nothing....I managed to get back a roo that I had sold as a day old chick, but from a different pair. He is doing well with 7 hens, I...

Just happened to take at look at this thread. Rose combed chickens have the fame, if you want to call it that, of fertility problems, linked to the comb. That is why, old time breeders, suggest every once in a while, if you have a single combed hen, use her, and then keep a boy with a rose comb...

Quote: Yes, when we say blue, we mean blue laced red, just don't say all the words. Splash is a lighter shade of the variety, but still blue laced red. I'd be surprized if you have a "black laced" bird. It will probably turn out to be a dark blue laced red. Boy do I feel dumb Sorry!! I am...

Quote: Yes, they are both BLRWs. Hatchery or breeder, they can vary a lot in color. My guess is two splash roosters. I agree, they are both splash, probably cockerels.

Quote: Years ago, when I would get the occasional chicks like yours, kinda a silvery color, they ended up being white & red. No blue lacing. They are very light splash chicks.

Quote: Oh sorry I misread you. So the splash you can usually tell and the black and blue are a little trickier. Black is unusual, splash and blue are easy to tell. Light beige body down usually means splash. Brown body with dark brown stripes is usually blue. Black, is anyones guess until...

I have some blrws. Please look at my blog & website. I've had a closed flock for 6 years. I've never introduced another breed or other variety to my flock. Just culled & bred from the best.
