From your pictures the comb and wattles are already developing but the big flag forme is the swept back feathers on the head (rather than an all over poof that a pullet would have). Hope that helps.

@ashtree no need to be sorry. It's a learning curve for me and this is part of it. Litterally, in just this last week the silkie took a big change. I thought I would see something sooner than 21 weeks if it was a HE....but, I guess I'll just wait for a crow. I live within city limits and...

I had posted a while back and just wanted an updated opinion. I swore this one was a pullet, but then in the last two weeks???? The comb is developing quickly and I'm seeing very small wattles, both a returning red. He/she seems to be standing tall in the photos because I was making a clicking...

I was almost certain my silkie hen was a roo until she was 16 weeks, she would do chest bumps every morning with her flock mates, was loud, etc....but, she's a pullet!! Definitely confusing sometimes.

I'm also no expert, just a fellow silkie owner but based on your photos I would say Red looks like a cockerel, Pearl I'm really not sure and Lola looks like a pullet. Hope this helps some.

I just re-read your post and realized you may be wondering how you notice the "squat". It will be obvious! One day, if she does start squatting, you will walk past, reach down toward her, etc and she will stoop down low, spread her wing out slightly and freeze there for a few seconds....it's...

The golf ball doesn't "trick" them into laying so much as show them where the eggs should go. It is an encourager as where to lay, not when they start laying. Silkies are notoriously late developers and will likely start laying later than other breeds. But every chicken, even silkies are...
