If I remember correctly you had silkies right? I'm not as sure how resilient they are, but in general the birds should have access to these temps at these weeks:
0 - 100F / 1 - 95F / 2 - 90F / 3 - 85F / 4 - 80F... and so on... until they are fully feathered. That being said, being cold and/or...
Thanks for the warm thoughts!!! And another huge thanks to everyone for another successful hatch-a-long! I'll post some more pics in 1-2 weeks when they move to their new brooder (the weather is still not cooperating in northern Illinois!)
Final hatch tally: Set 205 - 155/193 (hatch / viable @ 14 days) ~ 80%
Potentially could have had a better hatch with higher humidity for this large hatch. Was between 65-75%, might shoot for 70-80% next time.
Keep the pictures and stories coming!
Still a few late comers, but was an amazing hatch. Included is our home flock barnyard mix and some bizarre (NN x Silkie) x (Rock / Barred Rock / New Hampshires). Should be wild to see how the mature. Wishing you all successful hatches!
I am incubating and hatching in a GQF. In this hatch of 193, I tried to keep it at 65-75%. It's winter here, and quite dry... was a bit of a daunting. What made it more challenging was that I had some scheduled to hatch 02/25, and then 02/26. To work with the prolonged lockdown time, I...
Just pulled out 30 more, will post pics tomorrow but I am happy with my largest hatch to date. Congrats to everyone hatching! So much fun to share everyone's stories...
Batch #2 is out of the incubator! I think I have a little more then half hatched so far... Lots of pip holes left, so we shall see what Sunday brings...
My hatcher sounds like a popcorn machine with how much activity is going on inside! I am going to have to wait til Sunday morning to open it up, unless I can't handle it any longer. Looks like at least 1/3 have hatched so far...
Went into 'lockdown' with 193. Holding steady at 99.5F / 65% humidity.
A little concerned that the eggs were pretty close together. I have 123 set to hatch Saturday and 70 on Sunday. We'll see what actually happens. I'm thinking I might get some pipping tonight and hatching tomorrow, they...
All of the above! I love breeding animals, and I've had a lot of experience with guppies and rabbits in closed systems. We hatch so many so that we can fill our freezer, but most importantly, we pick the top 10% of what we are looking for: confirmation, vigor, and temperament... in that order...
Candled today (Day 15) and found 193/205 viable. Should be an epic hatch. Brooders are all prepared!
Here's a picture (17 days old) of the last hatch from 02/02/17:
Only 4 more days til day 14 check-in! So excited to candle this massive (205) hatch! 80/205 were from another farm, so I'll tally 2 viable charts. Hope everyone's hatches are going well!
Yeah... every winter I borrow a cabinet from my brother, and to make matters even more interesting, he gave me a 7 dozen more eggs today! So now I'm at 209 total... He has some silkie/nn crosses in there so should be interesting!
Good luck to everyone for the Feb hatch!
