Here's an appenzeller spitzhauben from Cackle at 3 weeks. I'll go home and take pics of the buckeyes and columbian wyandottes I got from them as well.
I can't speak to it's show qualities but it seems to be a good representation of a fairly uncommon breed. The two I have from last year keep...
Hi Rin-
I haven't read all the way back- there definitely seemed to be an anti-hatchery theme going on here when I first started participating in the thread. If you look from page 10 on it's more about the birds and service from Cackle.
If you follow the politics of it, you'll find there are two breed groups and they don't get along well. I think one group is worried that their birds will get co-opted by the other group and so they don't sell any. It just doesn't seem worth getting involved in. The birds I get from elsewhere...
I tried to buy from him but I could never get him to commit to taking my money. I figured I'd rather own hatchery stock than not own breeder stock. They are a pretty political breed- I'm fine with staying out of that mess.
I'm not familiar with Mr. Lay's chickens. I'll let you know how mine do somewhere in September. I hope to get a bunch of hatching in in the fall. And... a bunch of eggs.
Hi Stewed Mama! My mom is from Marshfield. I am happy to see you can still raise livestock in the area- from what I've read, it looks pretty developed these days.
I have had three successful small orders from Cackle in the last year, so I decided to get what I wanted right away this spring at once. I ordered barred rocks, buckeyes, appenzeller spitzhaubens, and Columbian wyandottes. I ordered 63 and got 70, all alive, spunky, and settling right in...
Well hopefully the Lamb leads you to a better hatchery- me, I'll be making my 4th order with them towards the end of April. Never had a problem- don't anticipate ever doing so.
I really hope everyone realizes that the negative reports on here are a very small amount of the business that Cackle does. I wouldn't take it to heart-
I'm truly amazed by these bad reports. I've gotten nothing but amazing chicks from the three orders I got from them. I plan on ordering again this spring.
I know it seems like a big thing for you, but unless you can establish a pattern, i.e. more than you having the same problem, logic dictates that the problem lies with you. Not accusing- just pointing out where my mind goes. I'm assuming others think the same way.
I haven't got a chance to catch up on this- are you feeding game bird starter? Did you add anything to the water when you got them? Have you added diced boiled eggs to see if a boost in protein helps? Are they separate from the chicks to prevent cross-infection? What did Cackle say when told...
In the beginning of May I ordered 10 Spitzhaubens and 10 columbian wyandottes from Cackle. They gave me a ship date of 6/2/2014. They shipped them the afternoon of the 2nd. They arrived to Northern Minnesota today at 5:30 AM. I recieved 11 spitzhaubens and 11 Columbian wyandottes. They are...
