Last year 2013, nearly 1/2 of my dom chicks had single combs. This year none. And yes, they are all Dominiques. The single comb gene is in my flock, which is OK, as single comb cockerels are delicious. They are all Dominiques, though I don't use any single combed birds in my breeding program...

Very true. I wouldnt want a Dom hen to lay more than 200 eggs over the course of a year. I don't think she could handle it. And we don't want the Dom hens to start looking like a barred Leghorn either....

We in the Dominique Club of America are doing what we can to encourage more folks to become Dominique breeders, but it is difficult. This past spring we had a membership drive where we gave away a new incubator, and many of us sent hatching eggs "FREE" to new folks who wanted to become breeders...

I prefer Dom -eh-nick, but that's just my preference. As far as I know, either is fine. What I don't like is a youtube video in which the lady calls her hens Dome-in-eeks. Just sounds silly.
