Hi, a month ago I was here asking for advice fir the duck I rescued who had Angelwing..we bound her wings and they are great now. Thank you!
So here I am with more questions hoping that someone may be able to advise me.
We live in the UAE where it is currently 48degrees Celsius . Daphne was rescued from her siblings who were pecking her to death.
1) what breed is she? Will she fly?
2) she seems sad, should we get her company? Duck or chicken?
3) her legs are quite splayed. She can run when she wants but mostly sits down and seems uncomfortable walking.
Any advice appreciated!
TIA

That looks to be a Muscovy! And they are flighted but you can clip their flight feathers on one wing. I don't own Muscovy ducks, but if they are anything like other ducks, I would get her/him a friend! Ducks are very social birds.
Splay leg isn't something I've had to face yet....
@Debs Flock@casportpony, you folks are better at names and linking.... Any splay leg help?

I think she's a Muscovy duck. She's really gorgeous, what a beautiful colours on her feathers!

If you want to get her company, you probably should get another Muscovy duck, or maybe two. Do you have a pond for her to swim?

@Miss Lydia ?
Muscovy, and they do like company of their own kind but will settle for any breed lol. they talk a different language than other domestic breeds.

When deciding on a breed be sure if you want a drake that you get at least 2 more ducks to go with Daphne so she'll not be over bred. Splay leg is something that usually happens at hatch if ducklings are kept on slick surface and can be fixed if done early by hobbling the legs. Not sure if it would help Daphne since she looks size of an adult. So thinking a drake may not be good for her since she has a handicap, maybe a couple more females or even just one more.

It would be better to get her another duck than a chicken. I do not know if splayed leg hurts or not. If she grew up like that she is probably used to it - at least, that is what I would think, not sure.
